Ghostbustour

I know I’ve seen this before, and I thought I posted about it, but when their new logo popped up on Flickr (on the nav bar on the left), and I couldn’t find it in the archives, I decided it was worth mentioning again. It was December, it was busy. Maybe I forgot. I dunno. Anyhow, here it is again.

Basically, this group is creating a walking video tour of New York – Ghostbustour. You load the video onto your iPod, PSP, cellphone, or what-have-you, and it guides you around New York, stopping from time to time to talk about various filming locations from the film. The last trailer I saw, I thought it even had them super imposing modern New York scenes over scenes from the movie, for comparison.

Ambitious, but keen as hell. Here’s hoping they get it finalized soon.

More Zootfly interview

Zootfly’s Tibor Klajnscek answered some questions for FiringSquad.com. There is some great new stuff, including some descriptions of how they see the game operating.

FiringSquad: In terms of gameplay will the Ghostbusters game allow you to play as all four characters in a tactical action game a la Rainbow Six or would you control each team member individually?

Tibor Klajnscek: We were thinking more along the lines of Gears of War where you would only control one character. You’d get to decide which one in the start. The other three would be AI sidekicks. A setup like this would enable us to have much more fast paced action in the game.

Interestingly, the videos have been removed from YouTube, at Sony’s request. Given Sony’s firm grip on controlling materials, whether it was pulled just because, or if it’s related to their ongoing, supposed discussions with Zootfly, who knows?

Thanks Darren! Cheers on the YouTube spot, Ben.

[update] Two of the videos are back up, for the time being, at GameTrailers.com.

Various site stuff

Hi – time to bring people up to speed on a few things.

RSS
First off, when the site moved to its new state and format, anyone using the RSS feed link got left behind. I posted one last post, directing people to here, but it didn’t make it into the RSS feed, and as a result, a number of people thought I hadn’t updated the site since early December. I can understand this, as sometimes I really don’t update for a month. In any case, I’ve amended the old RSS feed (boy I hope it works now) and I’d like to direct anyone interested in the new feed to the RSS link on the sidebar.

Old News
If you’ll notice, the Old News page is gone, and a PC Features page now exists. This is because I’ve moved a large amount of that old news to the new format, including old features and interviews. There are still many more to go, but if you’ve never read the old material, please check it out – I even rescued some old materials from other, long dead websites (including a couple of keen GB RPG compaigns.)

Patrick
Every time I report on GB3, I get comments from Patrick. In particular, when I completely debunked the lazy, sensationalistic, and journalistically corrupt news wire story that made it sound like GB3 was being made and Ben Stiller would star, Patrick decided I was The Evil One. He continues to do so.

To All GB Fans!!!
Listen up!!! There will be a Ghostbusters 3 there are proof GB3 articles and Proof GB3 posters for 2008! GB3 is even on the news it said that Dan Aykroyd has written a new script and Ben Stiller WILL replace Bill Murray! Castewar is a jerk he has OLD GB3 news tell him straight there WILL be a GB3 in 2008! GB Fans had made some cool GB3 trailers too Check it out! PS. Why would someone makeup a false article about GB3 Castewar is a FRAUD about this not me or the GB Fans!

This seems like a good time to lay out a few facts.

PC isn’t here to report every scrap of information as fact. I report it at face value, and then in many cases I will apply my caveats – a simple example would be that I’ll never report that a GB game is in production until it’s actually in production. I will cover the attempt to get it into production however.

Similarly, I will not report every fan poster and off-handed remark about GB3 as proof that it is being made – it is not proof that it is being made, it is proof that there is still interest, either by the fans or certain filmmakers. And I’ve seen over ten years of this. I’ve seen a lot of stuff that really really really made it seem like a third movie was close – and it’s still not here. Even this last debacle, if you ignore my report that the news was bogus, it’s over a year old… and GB3 is not in production.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again one last time, for everyone to read, the minute someone credible says, “GB3 has been green-lit and begins filming next fall” I will report it, complete with “Woo-hoo!” in the headline. But until then, I will continue to report whatever comes along with a grain of salt.

Keep on keepin’ on, Patrick!

Wired posits shenanigans – MC Chris flys GB flag.

Wired blogger Chris Kohler pointed out the elephant in the corner, that possibly Zootfly’s move was simply to create some buzz and establish some name recognition for TimeO.

Speculation: after the licensing deal fell through, and with the opportunity to put themselves on the map fading away, ZootFly decided to leak what they had. They figured that when journalists came a-knockin’, they’d direct them to their other project, TimeO, which nobody would have cared about otherwise.

The response from most people would be, “Well, no duh. Quit pooping on our cake.” It’s true that if this is the motivation behind Zootfly posting the videos to the web, and that regardless of their assertions otherwise, their shot at a GB game is dead in the water, it would suck, but since we’ll never know for sure, we might as well dream. Thanks to CrazyMrTibbs for spotting the link.

King of the white-boy rappers (don’t let Eminem tell you otherwise) and the reigning 800 pound gorilla of Nerdcore Rap, MC Chris spotted the Zootfly videos and expressed his love for the GBs. He also hinted that his new album is drawing inspiration from Ghostbusters, which likely means some solid references to the movie.

the ghostbusters is one of the many muses of the new album. that and whodini’s haunted house of rock.

and there is no gorilla in the ghostbusters.

[update] Direct Link to episode in question.

This comes in the wake of Zootfly’s CEO Bostjan Troha answering some questions for Gamespot. Thanks to Adam Nutter for the tip.

As diehard Ghostbusters fans we somehow felt obliged to share the early prototypes with the public. Also, we hoped to show that the fan base is enormous and that there’s a wide and genuine interest for a next-gen Ghostbusters game.
