They even used my screen grab! Cheeky!
Mr. Geoff Jones dropped me a line about his new blog, which is keeping track of all theatrical showings of Ghostbusters. If you’re looking to catch it on the big screen, check it out. And even if you’re not, if you know of a screening, you should let him know, so he can add it to his list.
At almost the exact same time, Ecto Ernie dropped me a line to let me know that the Sunshine Cinema in New York City is showing Ghostbusters at midnight, from now until Saturday, July 7th. Lots of chances to catch it there.
The latest Previews catalog from Diamond Distributors is taking orders for a softcover trade paperback of the Ghostbusters: Legion comic series, by 88mph Studios. Orders placed for this catalog will arrive in October. It’s on page 297 – ask your local comic shop.
The listing says the TPB will feature comic series and the color version of the Zeddmore Factor (the ComicCon give-away comic by 88mph.) However, this doesn’t appear to be a North American release of the Titan publishing TPB in the UK, as the listing also says the book (which features one of the Steve Kurth covers of the comic series – not the black, logo UK version) will feature extras, including character concept art. So, it would appear that this is closer to the hardcover version. No word yet if the hardcover will be shipped prior to the softcover version, or if the two have the same content.
The book got a staff call-out, which is nice and while I have yet to find it, the catalog is also soliciting the Ecto-1 Lithograph by 88mph. Given that my comic dude put in an order for me, not realizing I already own a copy, I’m assuming the listing is in there somewhere. This is good news for anyone looking to get a copy for the $20 pricetag, but without the shipping cost – it’s possibly doubly good news for overseas fans, who may be able to order through local shops who deal with Diamond Distributors (can’t swear to this though.)
Michel Gondry’s (The Science of Sleep, various music videos) next film, Be Kind, Rewind, has a clever premise – having destroyed every tape in a friend’s video store, Jack Black and co must reenact every movie to keep a little old lady happy. I know – definitely qualifies as unique.
It’s been known for awhile now that amoung such classic video-store fare as Robocop and Driving Miss Daisy, Ghostbusters gets a “remake.” How much screen time that equals isn’t clear, but the first official picture (click to see full sized image – way bigger than above) from the film is, according to Director’s File, from the GB sequence – hopefully that means it won’t be lost in a montage or something. Better yet is that the site reports that the film will have a limited release on December 21st. Oddly, this is usually a move so a film can get in on some hot, Oscar Award action. Given Gondry’s extremely clever and artistic resume, it makes a certain amount of sense.
Looking at the few pictures released thus far, it doesn’t look like Black’s character wears glasses – does that make him Egon in his hasty redux?
