Sexy Ghostbuster costume a best-seller

An interview with a New York state retailer reveals on interesting fact about the Sexy Ghostbusters costume that appeared this past fall.

This past year, Kingston decided to experiment with selling Halloween costumes on his site and that was another success, especially the sexy Ghostbusters costume, said Brienne Downey, Kingston’s fiancĂ©e.

Crazy Dog sold 400 of the Ghostbusters costume, compared with 40 or 50 for each of the other costumes on the site.

That’s food for thought. As to why Kingston opted for the Ghostbusters costume, there’s a picture accompanying the article where we can see a Ghostbusters logo t-shirt in the background. Apparently it wasn’t a big leap for him to move from one piece of Ghostbusters merchandise to another.

We Are Legion: Danny Wallace

null
If you don’t live in the UK, you probably don’t know who Danny Wallace is, but over there, he’s an author and TV personality (actually, he’s an author over here too, really) – soon, you’ll see Jim Carrey in a movie based on one of his books (Yes Man.) But for now, that doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that he’s Ghostbusters fan. How big a fan?

Well, in the UK they have a trivia show, Mastermind, where the players get to pick their area of expertise – Wallace picked Ghostbusters. And then proceeded to rock the category.

Martin Sikes 1968-2007

A friend of mine died over the holidays, a fact I just discovered today, just in time to attend his memorial. It was the kind of memorial all of us would be lucky to deserve – I have no official count, but given the size of the lecture hall we were in, the gathering of family and friends easily numbered hundreds and hundreds. I will not claim we were close friends – I will proudly claim that we were friends – but I learned a lot about about the man today.

I knew he was a fantastic engineer, I just never knew how brilliant he really was. And I knew he had a zeal for learning, I just never know how varied his interests were.

Cleaning up the town.

Or at least, my small part of it.

Having recently moved, it became pressing that I sort my stuff, particularly some Ghostbusters items that need some careful storage. I found a couple I thought I’d post. The first is a Slimer puppet – a very small amount were produced by Kenner and they occasionally show up on eBay for about $30-$50US. Mine’s a bit more unique, as it’s the example puppet sent overseas to the manufacturing plant. It’s dated 1986, so it was intended as part of the second wave of Real Ghostbuster toys, presumably. Note the little plastic no-ghost logo – the same is found on the production run (and similar toys, like the plush Stay-Puft Kenner produced around the same time.)

Ghostbusters Art: Mahlon Fawcett

Every once and awhile, James Van Hise (RGB author extraordinaire), sells off some old Ghostbusters and Real Ghostbusters material – copies of art proofs, behind-the-scenes production photos. And he’s got a new batch up which every fan should have a look at. But of particular interest is that he’s selling an unused Real Ghostbusters Cover by Mahlon Fawcett – according to Van Hise the cover was for issue #16 and that they should have used it. Comparing the two, I’d have to agree.
