Unavoidably, and depressingly missing one another by mere moments, I left San Francisco just as Troy (of GBHQ fame) was arriving – I having just attended the Game Developers Conference (with nothing I can talk about) and Troy just about to attend the pre-ComicCon con, WonderCon (also with nothing he can talk about.) He did however spot the Ghostbusters ad above in the con guide.
So! What it’s all mean. Who can truly say for sure, or at least without fear of getting stomped by an immaculately dressed Sony lawyer? But it sounds more and more like we all need to be in San Diego this Summer.
Thanks Troy!

Greetings from the Con floor in Hall A (God bless modern technology)! Not only is the “big announcement” tease on flyers inside the welcome gift bags, but on the inside cover of the Wondercon program… Ooooohhh boy are they settingup the hype machine. And I’m proud to be the first to tell you that the big announcement is— what? You’re Sony who? No! Don’t escort me out! I wasn’t going to say anything!
I’m going to keep my expecations low for now and just assume it will be for the game.
Or DVD remaster on Bluray hidef?
with the video game already announced, could it be… oh be still my beating heart!
Dan is such a killjoy, remind me to take him off the invite list for my birthday party.

here is a different ad for the same thing! this one has a sony pictures home entertainment logo on it…
could it be a direct to dvd/blu-ray gb3 cgi movie? or just the announcement of the blu-ray gb 1 and 2′s? hmmmmmmmm
I’m talking myself out of it more and more, but couldn’t it possibly be for The Real Ghostbsuters finally coming to DVD?
Doesn’t Sony only release HD dvds? I’m keeping my expections low as well…but my heart is a flutter thinking about the possibilities…Perhaps my tax return will be financing my first ever trip to ComicCon.
I wonder. We can only hope it’s the RGB DVD’s. But, that is, only hope. But, as many have already said, with the game already announced, my expectations are LOW!!!
Blu-Ray DVDs.
i hope what ever it is is. its worth the wait. i would love to see anything on the real ghosbusters, movies. heck any announcement about ghostbusters is fine with me.
i’m not going to expect it to be much. but i’m going to wait and see.
how much longer till comic con?
It’s comicon so it could be special edition blu ray DVD,s, more on the game and possibly even toys or a new animated series. Either way I’ll be there in gear.
I don’t think Blu-Ray versions are considered a “BIG”, all in caps to emphasize the importance, announcement. With so many movies coming to blu-ray and HD, it just makes sense. Besides, I seem to recall an ad about new upcoming high definition movies that include Ghostbusters anyway, it was an image that showed 3 or 4 movies and ghostbusters was up there.
There is no way a hyped up “BIG” announcement can possibly be a blu-ray dvd. I think it’s going to be RGB dvd sets. I doubt it’ll be a new installment to the movies, like a CG movie, since everyone involved has already brushed off any sort of ideas as impossible.
RGB dvds, there isn’t anything else that I would consider a “BIG” announcement.
Jade Stantz please tell me you were joking with the HD-DVD comment?
I’ve been praying for RGB DVDs ever since they released those very random single-disc volumes. I would even settle for a “Best Of…” DVD box-set. Now, I don’t think RGB DVDs would be big enough on an announcement other than to hardcore Ghostbusters fans. I think the big announcement is that the 4 ghostbusters will be on attendance at the Con. I don’t know really.
Ecto1 and ecto-1a will be there at the show thats the big thing guys just wait and see i know for a fact…..
No Troy. Sorry I don’t keep track of what company sells what dvd format. I’d rather spend that time obsessing over Dan Aykroyd. It’s more fun.
Wait! What if it is that Bill finally has agreed to allow ghostbusters action figures to be made? Neh, I don’t think so either.
(Some of this message rehashes what others have already thought, but I want to run through all possible ideas that came to my mind.)
The program shot seen here provides a few *possible* clues. The first thing you notice is that the image is the (lame) 2005 DVD cover art, which was reused for the PSP UMD version. On further inspection you will also notice a “Sony Pictures Home Entertainment” (SPHE) logo (lower right corner) and an MPAA “PG” ratings logo (to the left of the No Ghost logo). If these are meant to be there, and related to be “BIG” announcement, then it rules out a few things… but I’ll run through them anyway.
– My first thought is GB3, but pretty much all involved have shot that down time and again, so I wouldn’t place a bet on that. Unless it’s meant to be direct-to-video, the SPHE logo shoots this down as well.
– My second thought was the new video game, but what more is there left to tell us about it? The only unknown is what the Peter character’s likeness looks like, and unless they have Bill Murray in person at the con to unveil it, I don’t think that’s such a big announcement. Everybody already knows about the franchise’s video game plans, so that’s no big secret. Plus the SPHE and PG logos shoots down *anything* having to do with the game.
– The Real Ghostbusters finally coming to DVD. The SPHE logo fits with this, but the PG logo shoots it down.
– The Ghostbusters 3 computer animated movie that Dan Aykroyd talked about in an interview last year. If it’s direct-to-video, then the SPHE and PG logos would fit with this. That would also mean that the final cut of movie was made and already screened for the MPAA. Somehow I doubt this is the case. On that note…
– I think the MPAA rating points more towards the official announcement of the Blu-Ray release of the movie(s). That doesn’t mean that new bonus content isn’t still a possibility, but given Sony’s track record, I wouldn’t count on it. In my opinion, THIS IS THE ODDS-ON BET!!!
It’s already been reported by those in the know that the real Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A cars will make an appearance at the con (they’re currently being renovated), we can only hope that some of the Ghostbusters cast/crew members will be there as well. It would be great if all four Ghostbusters showed up: Bill, Dan, Harold, and Ernie!!!
It’s times like this that I wish I had the money (and the desire to deal with the transportation) to travel cross-country again to make my first ever trip to ComicCon. It’s been 10 years since I was last in California, so it’s about time I go again. Maybe make it a decadal thing.
Paul,
It could also just be that they recycled the artwork that they had lying around from before, and were too sloppy to edit out the SPHE and PG rating information.
But, as I said before, my guess was Bluray editions.
There has also been rumors which have come partly true that Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will be doing the convention circuit with the Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A. It was announced that Ernie would be at Adventure Con convention in Tennessee with the Ecto-1.
Tell us more – where was this announced?
