This clip of Sony Marketing rep Nelmari Claassens is up on YouTube – in it she talks about the Men In Black Blu-Ray before talking about the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray. Some of the details include;

-The set will be one of the first on a 50 Gig Blu-Ray disc instead of the regular 25 Gigs!
-The disc will include games, episodes of the cartoon.
-Confirms GB2 only available in set.
-The DVDs will also be issued again at the time.

It also confirms that Sony is thinking of 2009 in terms of the 25th aniversary. Thanks to Timo for the heads up.

  1. Ryan LeClair says:

Could someone explain to me what is so exciting about GB being on a 50 gig Blu Ray disc rather than 25? I don’t know any of this stuff.

  2. Steven says:

Theatrical re-release with updated effects (ala the Star Wars re-releases of a few years back)?

Pure speculation on my part here, but seems like a reasonable possibility. The movie holds up very well, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the terror dogs digitally matted….

The more space, the less compression, the less compression, the better picture. Plus room for extras, like the games (which have to be more than the crappy games they used to put on DVDs.)

Guys like Netsolo probably have a better technical take on it that that.

  4. derek says:

WOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!! i’m way jazzed for this.

LeClair asked what’s so exciting about a 50GB disc… it’s a LOT of space… there is either going to be an ass-load of bonus content, or…maybe they’re “lucasing” GB with revised effects? Possibly two cuts of the film on one disc… similar to the BLADE RUNNER and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS releases. I really doubt they would throw a standard BR release on a 50GB disc for shits and giggles… it’s going to be something cool.

Sony… read my text…. FIRST. DRAFT. SCRIPT. please!!!!!

  5. derek says:

aahhh…. nevermind… both films on the same disc, apparently. i’m hoping there will be some killer new BTS content produced…. i’m not a big fan of gimmicky interactive content.

this is definitely out of the “Big Announcement” list

  7. Andreas says:

My first thougt was GB1 and GB2 on one disc. By the way: “This video has been removed by the user.” ?!

  8. Matt says:

I don’t mind them packaging GB2 together with it, I’m just disappointed that again it’s going to get snubbed in terms of special features.

This is still very exciting, though. Hopefully we get ALL the deleted scenes this time.. and with TrueHD audio.. well fuck yes.

I’m hoping for a theatrical re-release next year. You can always hope.

  9. Andreas says:

I would like to see a “Ghostbusters: 25th Anniversary Special Edition Director’s Cut” ;-)

Not anymore: “This is a private video. If you have been sent this video, please make sure you accept the sender’s friend request.”

Of course it doesn’t matter now since Chris archived it here on PC, which is why the player at the top of this page still works :-)

  13. What’s the point of them including episodes of the cartoon when ALL of them are going to be released by Time Life at the same time? Unless, of course, the episodes are meant to be a “promo” to get interested parties to buy the Time-Life set.

  14. this post is quoted by Spook Central: The Ghostbusters Companion says:

Since I just found the cover art for the Blu-Ray release on Amazon.de, I thought this would be a good time to recap what we know so far. By the way, the Blu-Ray is not yet available for pre-order on the US Amazon site.
