So, is all the excitement over the Ghostbusters video game helping generate buzz for a third movie? Looks like it, as MTV sat down to talk to Sigourney Weaver.
This afternoon I got chance to chat with Dana Barrett herself and yes, Ms. Sigourney Weaver is well aware of the chatter. “I’ve heard about it,” she said, adding “I’m supposed to get in touch with Bill [Murray] next week.”
Weaver called Murray’s potential involvement “great” and said she’s wondering if he thinks Dana ended up with Venkman. “Does he think we got married or something?” she laughed. Weaver wasn’t sure if there was a place for her in the story but she did think someone deserves a spot. “I would hope that my little Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I’m not in it!”

Oh wow. I guess we can hope to hear next from Rick Moranis? I always thought Sigourney Weaver was completely adamant about never doing another Ghostbusters. It really all depended on Bill Murray, huh.
oscar would be a great idea ……
I don’t agree.
I hated how GB2 was centered around Dana again. She should have been in it perhaps.. but I would have liked to see the story revolve around someone else.
I agree, the whole Peter/Dana on/off should be non-existent. It’s been done. I’d love to see her as more of a cameo, maybe sending Oscar off to GB training camp?
HA EXACTLY! Oscar is the logical choice to carry the torch… Pass on the family business! It could be done in a really legitimate way… nothing saccharine, just honest, a legacy.
Dana’s a useless character. If a third film ever comes to fruition, I hope she’s not involved.
I’ve said it before. If GB3 is made, give Dana a cameo only.
I’ve been saying for awhile if they wanted to go with a younger crowd in a potential third movie, having Oscar be a part of that would be really cool. Glad Ms. Weaver agrees
But yeah, don’t have a Dana-centered story. To paraphrase the Barenaked Ladies ‘it’s all been done’…
How very exciting
You can’t have Ghostbusters without Dana. She’s just as important as the busters themselves. In fact, she should strap on a proton pack at some point in the movie as well.
I always thought that a third movie should explain why Dana was chosen twice by supernatural forces to bring about the end of days.
Maybe it’s something in her bloodline. A family curse…
And yes. Oscar would be roughly 20-21, and just old enough to carry a proton pack.
Maybe to follow in the footsteps of his possible stepfather, Venkman?
Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing Seth Rogen as grown-up Oscar. LOL
They could really tell a good story if they take it back to character interaction and balance it with the razzle-dazzle.
No screenwriter puts useless characters in a film. GB3 could very well go further than GB2 as far as originality goes, but it it doesn’t, what’s the big deal? No sequel (to Ghostbusters) is gonna be equal to the original. I liked the 2nd one, even if a lot of people don’t/didn’t. In fact, I’ll even say that I LOVE the 2nd one. I first saw it when I was 5 years old, so maybe that makes a difference. But whatever they do, I’m sure it’ll work out in its own way, just like the 2nd one did. I’m sure there’s about a dozen or more possible storylines they could work with, so obviously whatever choice they make isn’t going to make everybody happy.
Well, I’m guessing Peter will have diminished involvement as is, Dana could simply be written off as his wife who makes brief appearances, but isn’t really involved in the story.
Oscar would be about 19/20 now, so logically either off to/back from college depending on the time of year and level of involvement.
I hope to god that Sigourney Weaver does not appear in Ghostbusters 2. Even bringing her back for the second movie was a big mistake in my opinion.
I’m very excited that Sigourney weaver changed her mind about Ghostbusters 3. She’s my #1 favorite actress and having her be in GB3 will be Great. I’m pretty sure that the writers did have Sigourney in GB3 because she changed her mind about it and since the original GB’s will be in GB3 Training a new team to help them out and having Sigourney return with the Original GB’s is very Awesome. She was great in the first two films and she will be great in the third GB film which will be here in 2010. Check out the IMdb for more Info.
This is so awesome!! If she returns, and Oscar’s character is in it, that’d be pretty cool.
well in the alien world she’s also lost her mind in that she wants to do an alien 5 only about her and with possibly no aliens…………maybe shes just looking for her 2 last big checks….
IMDB is not always accurate, but its OK to hope!
I’m okay with Weaver being in a 3rd film, but I agree that the movie should not center around her at all, I’d also go as far as saying she is the weakest link in the movies. And I’m actually against the idea of Oscar being a Ghostbuster, he’d be what, 19-20? Making the film intentionally kid-friendly is a bad idea. The first movie was not intentionally targeted at children, but kids picked up on it. The Ghostbusters are all experienced, knowledgeable people and it should remain that way. If I was writing it, I’d not even have Oscar in it and explain him being off in college or something.
Great Weaver shows some interest in the third one. The makers of the original said once that Dana brings a needful sense of reality to the movies, I have to agree. No one said the story will be Dana-based, so this isn’t a point against the idea of bringing her back.
I would love to see Dana come back if they ever finally made a third movie. Personally, I’d want it to turn out that her and Peter eventually got married. I mean, it’s just one of those classic movie relationships that you can’t help but love. They should be together. I have to agree, though, that I’d want to see the story be something different. It should not center around Dana again. It would just seem lame to do that again. If you’ve ever read Ghostbusters the Return by Sholly Fisch, or the Legion comics, you’d see that Dana can be in the story without it centering around her, and it can still be good.
They should just introduce a new character to give the movie a sence of reality. Bringing her back again is just too much.
If she is in Ghostbusters 3 she will have to have a significant role due to the fact that she is a big name.
No Dana!
I don’t want to see another Ghostbusters movie revolve around Venkman saving Dana. Let someone else get the girl for a change. ^.^
Sounds interesting – we will have to wait and see. I would be interested in learning why Dana has so much supernatural bad luck!
there is no dana, only zuul
I think the idea of making Oscar one of the new team members is really cool, in theory. But the fact he’d only be about 20 years old almost guarantees he’s be some lame, annoying Shia LeBouf type, and could even be played by him. Bonus points if they used one of the actual Oscar babies tho, all grown up. I agree that the GBs should all be early-mid 30s at least.
If Dana comes back, cameo only. Id rather not see her to be honest. She was the weakest character and another retread of her story would just be beyond lame.
I figured oscar would be a good starting point
I just had a discussion for good ideas for a sequel. It should involve the original four somehow. It set 20-25 years from 2. Maybe oscar is in college and wants to continue ghost hunting. Egon and Ray would have developed new technology. Theres a lot more but Im sure u all have thought about it too.
Dana dosnt have to have a big role but she should be there.
