Good news for European Ghostheads – Destructoid is reporting that the Xbox 360 version of the game is NOT region locked, meaning, in theory, that copies bought from American retailers can be played on UK and EU machines.
The bad news for everyone – as reported to PC, but as yet unconfirmed, the word via channels is that the demo for the Ghostbusters game will not be released until June 24th, meaning that its release will be intended to win over fence-sitters, post-release. Stay tuned as we find out more, but for now, with a week until release, it just doesn’t make sense for Atari to release the demo now.

Why wouldnt it make sense, any exposure of the game should win new comers without having to pay anything first, thats stupid. to release demos after or way after release is just plain dumb
Well I was looking forward to satisfying this ghostbustin’ craving a lil’ earlier, but oh well. At least we (those not on any fence) will get the full experience of ghostbuster glory instead of just a small sample to drive us even crazier for the real deal.
It doesn’t make any sense because right now, there is ample coverage of the game and our (meaning the hardcore fans) slavering hunger for the game does more to help promote the game than releasing a demo, at which point you run the risk of cooling down the hardcore fans – meaning, they go from “OMG! I WANT IT NOW!” to “Cool. Well, that was fun.”
It’s not an exact science – you could be right, and it would work to convince more people to buy, but with a week left to go, better to sit tight then once the post release heat starts to die down, release the demo.

At least I am gonna get to play the game. I pre-ordered as US version a few weeks ago hoping and praying that it would be region free.
Not happy with Sony on this one but hey… I can get my Ghostbusters fix on Xbox in New Zealand at least.

Sony stated that the PS3 demo would be released right after E3 and that it would be exclusive to their console. The 24th is not right after E3 so I’m still hoping the demo will show up on Thursday.
Sony’s blog in the EU mentioned that the demo would be showing up post E3 and exclusive to their system. Now that could mean exclusive to the PS3, in Europe only, as the different regions control what to do with their content. Sony also usually updates on Thursday, so the 25th could be a date the demo may be offered if it doesn’t come out earlier. Best to keep an eye on that blog.
And I don’t think any dev has really figured out when the best time it is to release a demo. I know they have turned me off titles I was hopeing to get, and have made me grab those I had no interest in at all. I think that all that matters, for me, is that there will be one. Anyone else remember when they said there wouldn’t be a demo for Ghostbusters?
Ok, I will admit I’m dissapointed that I can’t get the demo before the release…
HOWEVER, I find it much much MORE pleasing that now I can stop checking xbox live every few hours and being pissed/disapointed that it’s not there. Either way I will download it. It will be awesome to always have a little ghostbusting only a few clicks away.

Screw the demo, I get to play the game when I was told I was going to be able to! YES! LIFE IS GOOD!
D’oh! Shame… I was hoping to test the graphics on my PC. Oh well, looks like I will just have to take the plunge! I’m also looking forward to my free T-Shirt and movie ticket! The game almost pays for itself! (It’s only $29.99 on PC!)
Part of my doesn’t want the demo before the game. I’ve been trying real hard to stay away from spoilers of any sort but I really don’t think I’d be able to pass up on the demo. If it is a Sony exclusive I’m screwed because I see my PS3 downloading it and my not leaving my house all weekend lol. I guess it pays to stick with Sony sometimes
Glad its region free. Even though I’m here in the U.S. it makes me feel good to know that fellow ghostheads aren’t being screwed outta this while we get to enjoy it now.
And hey, come release day, there will be a ghostbuster fanplosion of biblical proportions. Real wrath of God type stuff. Well no, I assume God would be all “OMG GHOSTBUSTERS THE GAME! JESUS, CHECK THIS OUT, OMG NO WAY!”
“Region Free” means great things unless you happen to be stuck with a Japanese Xbox, which plays nothing but crappy Japanese Xbox titles.

Hopefully the people in the UK can download the demo when it comes out on the 24th at least since they can’t even get the game at the right time. Sony is an ass!

I am still so SHOCKED by how misinformed a lot of people are about the publishing situation outside the US. Sony should be praised for getting the game out earlier. They could have made Atari work out their issues themselves and everyone not in the US would have to wait to play this.
