Certain Samsung players cannot play Ghostbusters Blu-ray

A gentleman by the name of @Steevoo7 made a bit of an alarming comment recently on Twitter – apparently his Samsumg BD1400 does not play the Ghostbusters Blu-ray. Samsung confirmed the problem with him and said they are working on a firmware update for the player so that the disc will play. Let’s hope that’s the only Samsung player (or any other player really) that has the problem, and that updated its firmware is painless.

This is thus far the ONLY time I’ve ever heard the disc having a compatibility issue with a player – and there are a lot of review copies out there, so it doesn’t seem to be that widespread.

Well, my Blu-Ray player is my SONY PS3, so if it won’t play the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray, there’s something wrong lol.

  2. Ali says:

The Playstation 3 will work fine. It is the most versatile player on the market due to it’s ability to receive updates most easily through PSN. I think this may simply be an issue of a new function or feature on the discs that current firmwares require an update for, much like in the same way early DVD players didn’t support “seem-less branching.”

Simply put: All ur blue rayz need slimer vision upgradez from teh internetz!

    Hey dudes,

Wasnt sure if you guys knew that when you have the GB Bluray disk in your PS3 System it enables you to set a GB Theme for your PS3.

Its awesome, brings up a different GB picture each time you turn the system on!

  5. Robert says:

Really?! Kick ass! I just bought a ps3 over the weekend just for the Blu Ray! :)

  6. taylor says:

i brought the ps3 because i LOVE plastation and i love blu ray 80s movies so since im a ghostbusters fan i have to ask who ya gonna call?:D

  7. taylor says:

    oh and mother pussbucket!

  8. taylor says:

oh and my brother bought the ps3 sry(im only 9 where the hck will i get that money):)

I somehow got the GB Blu-Ray early (Blockbuster had a copy out, so I didn’t question it), I just got my Samsung Blu-Ray player a few weeks ago. The Blu-Ray played, but the menu took a good 2-3 minutes to completely play when it should have taken like 10 seconds. It seemed like the menu was skipping. How this fix comes soon.

In other stuff: the Blu-Ray is great. The Ecto-1 feature was REALLY good and I think I seriously teared up. Nice to see it all fixed up. Same stuff from previous DVDs too, which was nice to see again. Overall, Movie looks nice, but to repeat most of the other reviews, VERY grainy especially in darker parts.

Well I searched all over for a GB theme for my PS3 when I had the disc in and got nothing. Quite disappointed!!!! ANGER!!! HATE!!! . . . Anyway’s my favorite part is on the credits they have the names of the people that worked on the film. It’s neat to read names when the alphabet is used to spell them out.

  11. TomGreen says:

MTT When you have the bluray disk inserted, scroll to GAME rather than VIDEO on the PS3 Menu. It will say GB Theme, simply press triangle and install and BAM! A kick ass GB theme!

  12. Jeff says:

It JUST happened to me! Totally killed our buzz- it took forever to load the main menu after the previews. Then you can’t even see the Play Movie text (black text on a black background?!), just the Scene Selection, BD Live etc. So annoying that I invested in Blu Ray and it’s not even a finished nor polished product 3 years in! The picture quality is it’s only saving grace.

  13. Why doesnt it play that disc? Samsung should have avoided this happening.

  14. castewar says:

That’s a funny question coming from a Blu-ray review site.

  15. Jonathan says:

Yeah, I, for one, would think the wait time just to watch a movie would be enough to dissuade people from Blu-Ray, but apparently not…and it figures something like this would happen. Blu-Ray players are basically miniature/one-purpose computers, at least according to a top reviewer at Amazon, and computers are always going about like they have a mind of their own, so go figure!

  16. ronrocket says:

    i have a bd-1400, and yes it doesn’t play…and i have applied the version 2 update,

  17. Stevoo7 says:

Hi all ,the writting got my name wrong.never mind thou, still have the problem and my BD-P1400.and no firmware update

  18. Ronin says:

I just searched online for this problem and found this site. I have the BD-P3600. The menu skipped around and I too noticed it just says IE where to play the movie. I didn’t even attempt to play it, but just saw a firmware update on samsung that I am going to attempt now.

  19. Ronin says:

loaded right up and screen is complete now after the firmware update.

  20. Stevoo7 says:

Hi all , I spoke to samsung last night after I had an email from them asking me to contact them. They say a fix is now available and are posting me a disk, hope this is good news :-)

  21. Stevoo7 says:

For Twitter or xbox live type. STEVOO7

  22. Jon says:

Well, I just updated my firmware and I have a Samsung player and it won’t even get to the Sony loading screen. Is this a fix for later players or something? I’m not really sure what player I have but I thought it was a 1400. I JUST got the thing updated today and it tried to load the disc but it got as far as me hearing the first tones of the Sony loadup and then it froze. When did the firmware update OFFICIALLY get released and for which player? And can you tell if it’s just a bad disc or not? I sure can’t. My disc looks absolutely spotless to me.

  23. Jon says:

I also have a PS3 but I use that in my room. I’d hate to bring that in the living room just for one movie. Everything else seems to run fine EXCEPT for this film.
