A lot has changed in a year – what was originally going to be a Blu-ray 2 disc set with extras has turned into a DVD 2 disc set with the same extras, presumably as the Ghostbusters 2 Blu-ray is in limbo.

The set is the same DVDs as in the last green-goo double-pack, though it apparently doesn’t come with the collectible booklet along with the 5 inch Stay-Puft statue, trading cards (that you can’t trade, as everyone will have exactly the same ones), and little tub of slime. The slime might be worth having, though perhaps not $30 worth having.

Still, if you’re interested, Amazon is taking pre-orders, at 25% off, for the October 6th release – meaning pre-orders should arrive well before Halloween.

  1. This is already out in Australia :

  2. Yeah Ikkin’s right, this has been out in Australia for a while now.

  3. This is Bullshit.
    I want the Ghostbusters 2 BluRay !

  4. Right. What happened with the Ghostbusters 2 BluRay? Will it ever be released?

  5. Awesome – now Australia can never again complain they’re always the last to get something. ;)

There’s been no official word on Ghostbusters 2, but it wouldn’t be crazy if Sony decided to not confuse the Ghostbusters 1 Blu-ray, by putting it out alone. Once that’s out, then they can put out Ghostbusters 2 and gift sets, etc, having already maximized and capitalized on the market clamoring for the first Blu-ray. There’s not official date yet, but Ghostbusters 2 is still due out soon enough.

  6. Woah, so the price dropped to $20? It’s back up to the same $29.99 it’s been for awhile…(frowns)…

  7. I totally don’t get these 2005 & 2009 box sets. Sure they added 2 episodes of the animated show(s), but they removed the theatrical trailers (at least for the 2005 box set; special features for this haven’t been announced as far as I’m aware, but everyone keeps saying it’s **prolly** the same as the ’05 set). Not only that, but the “hi-def” transfer (supposedly) doesn’t look so good…some people say otherwise, but overall I think the 1999 DVDs are a better buy. It’d be cool if there was a way to get 2 or 3 episodes of the RGB & SRGB (esp SRGB ’cause I don’t really remember most of the episodes very well except for the “Deek” voice and the image of the zoom-out of the sleeping kid’s window which apparently wasn’t how they addressed the presence of the Dic company in at least the first season…) but to have to pay $5++ for one RGB and one SRGB is kinda harsh, especially when the “Real” reason for buying those is to get the feature presentation of GBII, which doesn’t look as good as it did on prior pressings…

Basically, this is a mixed bag in terms of quality & features. Definitely not worth $30.

  8. Although I guess that’s only $15 per DVD…which isn’t bad for those who don’t mind and/or welcome the tweakings. And the price will probably go down once it’s no longer a “new release”…

  9. I thought I visited this site way too much, but seeing how I don’t know what Bo Holbrook is talking about, seems I could benefit from one or two more visits per day.

  10. I don’t know that I’d say knowing what Bo is talking about has any benefits. I know what he’s talking about, and I’m certainly not a better man for it. Best to just ignore it.

  11. what was originally going to be a Blu-ray 2 disc set with extras has turned into a DVD 2 disc set with the same extras

I don’t think that the proposed two-movie Blu-Ray set was supposed to come with the extras. Looking at the picture from last year that you have on this site, the Stay Puft statue is clearly in a box that says “DVD” on it, and the two-movie BR and 2005 DVDs are shown separately. I get the impression that the two-movie BR was going to be two discs in one case.

The set is the same DVDs as in the last green-goo double-pack, though it apparently doesn’t come with the collectible booklet along with the 5 inch Stay-Puft statue, trading cards (that you can’t trade, as everyone will have exactly the same ones), and little tub of slime.

Looking at the tiny text on the back art I have on my site, which came from Sony’s press site, the “movie scrapbook” WILL be included. As Amazon hasn’t shipped my set out to me yet, I won’t know for sure until I have it in my hands.

The slime might be worth having, though perhaps not $30 worth having.

I feel quite the opposite. I don’t think the slime is worth having at all. I’m buying it for the cards first (I collect non-sport cards), and the statue second. I couldn’t care less about the tub of slime. And I will be selling off the DVDs (with or without scrapbook), as I have no use for them as they’re the same 2005 DVDs I already have/had: I kept the 2005 GB2 DVD I bought four years ago, which sits next to the 1999 disc; and the 2005 GB1 DVD is a complete piece of crap that I will not sully my collection with (the 1999 GB1 disc beats it in every imaginable way).

I actually feel that Sony made a really bone-headed move re-releasing those crappy 2005 DVDs with these goodies, instead of doing it as a GB1 & GB2 Blu-Ray set with the goodies. Of course, that would actually make sense and get EVERYONE interested in buying this, instead of the die-hards who just want the goodies. (I don’t think any of us is buying this for the DVDs.)
