Custom Ghostbuster Chucks! Scam or good idea?

(@ CreepyLA) Right now, on eBay, $250 will nab you a pair of custom made Converse Chuck Taylors, done Ghostbusters style. There are four variations to choose from (mixing and matching the various bits and bobs – colour of sole, piping, stitching, etc.), but regardless of your final picks, the pair comes with a Ghostbuster logo (looks like one of the patches readily available online currently) and your name stitched into the heel, a la the name patch on the GB jumpsuits.

Still, I’d buy a pair of these over the World’s Most Expensive Hoodie!

[UPDATE] As kris has pointed out, custom Converse can be made via their website, and indeed it looks like this is exactly the system the eBayer is using to create the shoe, then slapping a logo patch on it. The custom shoes, in canvas, are $62, plus shipping. Two patches for two shoes is another $20. At the bid price of $200, that’s a solid profit for the seller. I didn’t think there were any new scams under the sun, but this one’s pretty close.

With this in mind, it’s still a solid idea, and I recommend you check out the Converse site, where you have the option of making your own (sans logo) – you can even choose leather material, kids sizes, and even the Chuck X-hi’s which are more boot-like. Heck, why stop there? Why not the Converse Purcell’s or Skate shoes?

What other shoe companies let you build your own customs online that might make solid action shoes for a Ghostbuster on the run? Send em in!

Put together a cool design? Pop a screenshot!

European gamers – Ghostbusters pushed back to November 6th

There’s not much more to say about that, except that the Xbox version from North America isn’t region encoded, meaning those fed up with waiting can order from overseas. No confirmation if the same goes for DS and Wii versions. PC versions should also run without issue.

The PSP version is still set for an October 30th release, according to retails, which begs the question if this is more of Sony throwing its weight around, pandering to those consumers that own PS3, PS2, and PSP systems. Bad form if it is, but that’s just speculation on my part.

Thanks to Tom for the news, bad though it may be.

Tavern on the Green files for bankruptcy

It’s shaping up to be a bad year for Ghostbusters locations – not only is the Lincoln Center fountain being completely remodeled, but now The Tavern on the Green, where Louis Tully maybe had a milk bone and little Debbie Gibson had her birthday, has filed for bankruptcy, one month before being taken over by a new license holder.

Chapter 11 protection does not mean the restaurant is gone, rather it buys them time to reorganize and get back on their feet, so we’ll see how the rest of the year goes for the famous Central Park eatery.

Serious Ghostbusters tattoo [UPDATE]

While there are many Ghostbusters tattoos in the world, not all of them are as… MASSIVE as Shon Johnson’s. Featured in the Oct. 2009 (#242) issue of Tattoo Magazine, this full arm sleeve features Stay Puft, The Library Ghost, Slimer, Louis, and Ray, with little extras here and there, like a working ghosttrap. Easily one of the most impressive Ghostbusters tattoos out there! Are there more? Send them in! Thanks to Chris for taking the time to send in the article!

[UPDATE] At Slimerjtcp’s suggestion, I had a look at the Ghostbusters tattoos at RateMyInk.com and yes, there is another sleeve out there that is comparable to this one, though the pics are that great in detail, but it’s got some sweet images.

As well, Mike at the GB.net forums has a sleeve in progress, using the 88MPH comic art.

Reitmans to attend opening of new condo – guests get to play pretend Ghostbusters

Last year, it made the news that Ivan Reitman and family was involved in developing a film studies facility, with a nearby square in downtown Toronto to be named after their parents – the elder Reitmans were prominent local business people.

Now the Reitman clan – or at least the father and son combo of Ivan and Jason – will be attending the gala opening of the Editions Suites, a series of upscale condos. No word what happened to the planned “film studies building, which will include a number of theaters, learning centers, an archive, and so on.” unless those are contained in the Festival Tower below;

A joint-venture between The Daniels Corporation and the Reitman Family,
Festival Tower is a 46-storey condominium situated atop Bell Lightbox, the
celebrated new home of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Those attending the event on Friday, September 11th, will get to interact and have their photos taken with one of three classic film scenes – Ghostbusters, The Wizard of Oz , and Saturday Night Fever.
