Following on their promise of more seasonal, one-shot Ghostbusters comics after December’s Ghostbusters: Past, Present, and Future, IDW (via editor Chris Ryall’s blog) have revealed their Valentine’s one-off, Ghostbusters: Tainted Love (oohOOOHOOooh… what, no Soft Cell fans out there? It’s just me that hear’s that every time? Fine.)

Click image to see the much much larger version, and Winston’s arm-mounted thrower (very reminiscent of the original, storyboarded equipment ideas.)

Also big ups to Ben for spotting that the cover artist, Salgood Sam has a sketch gallery for the issue on his Flickr page, including a super-hilarious and cute sketch of the (presumably) valentine-trapped GBs. Lots of great stuff to check out.

Awesome! I Love GB Stuff like this! Great Work!

  2. shodanmark says:

What’s going on with Winston’s pack there? It’s tiny!

  3. J. Jason Groschopf says:

Awesome! Those valentines remind me of the little Ghostbuster caricatures from the vintage West End RPG. It’s such a nice touch!

I have to say, I had my doubts my IDW after “the Other Side”, but it looks like they’re getting it right. I’m enjoying the current series and looking forward to their one-shots

    To shodanmark:

Its a nod to the original versions of the packs from the storyboards of the first movie when they were originally neutrona wands mounted on their arms. It could also be an offhand shout-out to Braxton Films’ “Return of the Ghostbusters”.

  5. As long as that’s the ONLY cover and there are no damn variants, I’ll be happy. IDW was good with The Other Side, but they got completely ridiculous (and money hungry) with the number of variants they put out for Displaced Aggression and the Xmas one-shot. In that regard, they’ve become as bad as 88MPH.

  6. Ben King says:

I really don’t think you’re being fair in saying they’re getting as bad as 88MPH in terms of varients, Paul. Displaced Aggression doesn’t have as many varients as Legion.

    Hello everyone!
Glad you guys are noticing the arm mounted packs, those were fun to come up with. I hope people like them!

I don’t want to say too much because explanations lie pretty central to the story, but Re the storyboard ‘wand design’ connection: Good theory but not quite sorry.
The arm mounting was my idea, I played with a pistol concept a little but it seemed too handy and buck rogers, not industrial enough

Went with the arm mounted rig and trigger and a shrunken version of the packs to keep with the engineering of the original back packs. I’m hearing about the story board thing first time tonight, reading this. :)
    Cool but nope.

    for nerd points.

    cheers
    max
