Ernie Hudson nearly turned down Ghostbusters?

It’s true – I was poking around and found this 1984 article in Jet magazine, in which Ernie Hudson relates that he very nearly turned down the role of Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters, afraid that the part was similar to old, derogatory characters such as Stepin’ Fetchit.

I kept having visions of those old actors like Mantan Moreland, Eddie (Rochester) Anderson and Stepin’ Fetchit, shaking and rolling their eyes and stuttering in scenes involving supernatural creatures.”

It’s funny that as time goes by and younger generations question why Winston never made the movie poster, Hudson actually considers the role a positive one – who can argue with that?

And check out that picture of Ernie!
