Two days left in Namco-Bandai charity Ecto-1 auction

This one has been kicking around for awhile, so I figure I’d better get it up before it’s all over.

If you’ll recall our earlier post about Namco-Bandai joining forces with GameStop in Germany to build and then auction off a near-Ecto-1 replica (the car used is a ’68 Caddy Fleetwood – nobody would mistake it as the original car, but still a sweet ride), well, the auction did finally go live, the photos I guessed at before proved to be correct, and currently, with two days left, the car is going for just over 32,000 Euros (that’s about $45,000US.)

I’m not sure how many here are a) in Europe, b) have that kind of cash, and c) wouldn’t mind the inaccuracy of the car, but it’s still nice to know that A Heart For Children is going to get a big pile o’ cash!

Thanks to Andreas for the heads up!

First hint of IDW's Summer one-shot!

From the “IDW is doing a bang-up job” department, we’ve gotten our first, unofficial, word that IDW is lining up “CON-volution”, a Summer one-shot by artist Joshua “Dead@17” Howard. No writer as yet.

Is Comic Con a holiday? Yes. Yes it is. Which is, I’m assuming, the gist of the comic – the Ghostbusters, a fan convention of some sort, etc. And what better time to release it then during the Summer con months? Here’s hoping there’s a CON-exclusive cover!

This is as good a time as any to gently remind you all that a lot of this stuff pops up much earlier on Twitter, if you’re so inclined to follow Proton Charging there.

More Ghostbusters pre-production rumours – 3D?!?

MarketSaw, a website that specializes in news about 3D movies, has it on good authority from someone inside ILM that preproduction on Ghostbusters 3 has begun, and in a decidedly grand way – apparently, if the rumours are true, Ghostbusters 3 will be in 3D.

Indeed this creates a lot of questions – most important is “how solid is this info?”, followed by “and if it is solid, how close is an official greenlight on the project.” After all, if production isn’t greenlit, all this SFX cloak and dagger stuff is moot. The 3D aspect aside, this rumour is more interesting as it is the first confirmation of ANY sort of pre-production being underway. New York, for example, has yet to see ANY location scouting (that’s my exclusive PC rumour of the day.)

But finally, should Ghostbusters be in 3D? It’s a question only recently being applied to predominantly live-action films, after a couple of years of big boxoffice for CGI 3D films.

I don’t know if it needs to be in 3D, but it certainly can’t hurt. And for those of you who weren’t around in the 80s, there’s something very oldschool about making the third film 3D.

Thanks to Daryn and Clayton for the heads up.
