Ernie Hudson nearly turned down Ghostbusters?

It’s true – I was poking around and found this 1984 article in Jet magazine, in which Ernie Hudson relates that he very nearly turned down the role of Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters, afraid that the part was similar to old, derogatory characters such as Stepin’ Fetchit.

I kept having visions of those old actors like Mantan Moreland, Eddie (Rochester) Anderson and Stepin’ Fetchit, shaking and rolling their eyes and stuttering in scenes involving supernatural creatures.”

It’s funny that as time goes by and younger generations question why Winston never made the movie poster, Hudson actually considers the role a positive one – who can argue with that?

And check out that picture of Ernie!

Art Asylum announces two new Stay-Puft bank variants.

Art Asylum, just prior to the holidays, revealed in their blog that their Mr. Stay-Puft piggy bank (of which they made two – one as an SDCC exclusive and one for retail) has been so popular they are looking into releasing not one, but TWO new variants.

One of them they are keeping secret for now, but the second is a cool, blue, glow-in-the-dark version of the bank! Check out their blog photo gallery for a look (bear in mind the angry face in the prototype is not the final face – they intend to use the happy face.)

Ghostbusters: The Literal Video

Did you ever see the literal video version of Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears? It’s cute – it also had a quick Ghostbusters reference. You should take a look.

But that’s not the point of this post – as it happens, long-time Ghosthead, Adam Bertocci has tried his hands at a literal take on the Ghostbusters music video. Check it out!

Ghostbusters + Karaoke + MySpace = hilarity

I can’t think of many reasons to be on MySpace and I don’t think I’m entirely alone on this, but for those of you who are on MySpace, you might want to check out their Karaoke feature, which allows you to sing along to a few hundred popular songs… then post them online.

There are already over 1200 people on the site that have belted out their version of the Ray Parker Jr. classic, and you can too!

UKGB post-charity walk photo roundup!

Well, London enjoyed a Sunny, if crisp day for the The David Statton Sick Children’s charity walk, and the UKGBs donned proton packs and long-johns to do their part.

A tonne of great pictures of the event, in which they had a number of busters, a sweet ecto ride, a library ghost, a walking statue of liberty, stay-puft marshmallow man, and no-ghost logo (I think) can be seen at the GBFan forums (which have now made their threads viewable to non-members.)

In conclusion:

We walked 2 solid miles in gear for the parade (not including extra walking for transport and such).
We walked for two hours along the parade route.
The post-parade period lasted another hour (we were quite surprised after hearing Big Ben chime three as we walked away from the Square, to hear it chime four as we began to make our separate ways home).
We were interviewed at least three times by the grandstand commentators, Joey once (I think) Myself twice, Robert once (I think).
I had departed home around 8:50 in the morning, and didn’t get home until around twenty past six, or something like that.
I had one of the best experiences of my life, and I would neither regret it nor would be reluctant to recommend it to other people.
