We Are Legion: Jonah Hill

If there were such as thing as “Superbad alumni that are Ghostbusters fans” Bingo, we’d totally be winning right now.

In a recent interview with Collider about his upcoming movie, Get Him To The Greek, discussion turns to rumours (or complete internet fabrications, in French) that he is being lined up for Ghostbusters 3.

Every time Ghostbusters 3 is brought up your name is mentioned for that.

Hill: I have no information about that at all. I wish I did. It would have to be a pretty incredible endeavor for me to want to attempt to work on a movie that is a lineage of two of my favorite movies ever. I don’t feel worthy of a task that big.

But they might be bringing in new people.

Hill: That being said, if I have the opportunity to work with Bill Murray in ‘Boner Party 7′ for some reason I would do it. Bill Murray is my acting hero.

So you’re not hating on ‘Ghostbusters II’?

Hill: No. I love ‘Ghostbusters II’. I love it. It’s great.

It’s not the same as the first though.

Hill: It’s not the same but it’s not a bad movie. It’s not a sequel where you’re like, ‘Oh my God, why did you do that?’ It’s not ‘Legend of Curly’s Gold’.

He kind of wanders off into his Theory of Sequels from that point on, but it’s already enough confirmation that not only did his character in Superbad own a Real Ghostbusters lunchbox (proof of Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg’s fannishness more than anything), he actually likes the movie, both movies, for reals.

No Jonah Hill. No Michael Cera. No Seth Rogen. The originals were all great actors. If they are bringing in new people “hate that idea” dont get flavor of the month. Get good actors. I’d say let Murray’s friends in over Ramis’ friends. If they bring in people Murray likes, then you get two things, good actors and a better incentive for Murray to participate.

Leave Rogen/ Hill and Cera bomb in their own films.

P.S. Get him to Greek is going to bomb. If Rogens films aren’t doing good, then I don’t think a poor mans Rogen is going to bring in audiences any better.

Jonah, you and I are in agreement.

Finally we see GB2 getting some love. My hope is that someday we can see all the cut footage. Anyone have Ivan Reitmans number? Once i see these scenes in action and not still pictures i think id be able to die a happy man… or at least after GB3. btw castewar thanks for the props in the article

Well at least I can respect his opinion on ghostbusters 2.

  6. Kevin James says:

I actually know the kid who played young Jonah in Superbad. He even visited my buddy Neil once and we all went out for sushi.

  7. Anthony says:

Anymore, I am not opposed to Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill or anyone of the Apatow crew… They have won me over through their expressed affection and reverie of the GB series. Like I have said in the past, their acting chops are not what made me wary ( they both have talent ). It was more that I didn’t want to see a specifically different brand of humor show up in GB.

  8. Buster Brad says:

It would be a dream come true for me to have GB3 done in CGI and have the original cast star once again. The scripting and original voices of the GB video game made it a game for fans to be proud of. Have GB3 take place 3-5 years after GB2 and toward the end of the movie show how they will start franchising. I believe this would be a great transition for fans. It may be a bit of a drag to see the original cast older and not a main role throughout the entire movie. Especially if they show up and in the first few minutes hand the torch over to some rookies. This may not be a popular view but I like Bill Hader and Andy Samberg. I could see them as The core to a GB squad over Hill or Cera. Get some talent from SNL again.

  9. If I remember correctly, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, AND Judd Apatow all were asked by “reporters” about GB3 over the past few years, and all said that they love Ghostbusters, but would want no part of GB3 because they don’t want to ruin it. I fully agree with and respect that.

Personally, I can’t stand Jonah Hill. His appearances in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Night At The Museum: Battle For The Smithsonian” completely ruined both movies for me. Granted Smithsonian was even more implausible than the first film, so Jonah was the least of that film’s problems – though Amy Adams made the film worth watching.

Sarah Marshall I really liked, except for everything with Jonah. His character was completely unnecessary, and for the few times when they absolutely needed his character, they should have had a nobody playing the role – just like any other ancillary character. But, of course, producer Judd Apatow just had to stuff one more of his buddies into the film, even if he and the character had no reason to be there.
