Attack of the Show, on G4, posted the second part of their exclusive look at SDCC exclusives from Mattel, this time with more focus on the Real Ghostbusters figure. And yes, it’s confirmed – the beige jumpsuit IS the Citizen Ghost version, as an SDCC exclusive.
First thing we see is some packaging featuring Janine! The suggestion is that the set will include more than just the four GBs – possibly even a Slimer. Also named in the packaging – Mr. Stay-Puft!

The figure looks good, but the pack was phoned in, almost like they forgot the show packs are different from the movie. That is unless this is still in a bit of the prototype phase.
That’s the spirit!
Don’t get me wrong, I am really excited to finally see some collector RGB figures. But I am hopeful that the packs for the figures are still be working on.
I doubt it – it takes time to get figs made and shipped back. And with something as big as SDCC, Mattel will limit any chance something slips and it doesn’t arrive on time. However, they did confirm the jumpsuit is from Citizen Ghost, meaning the movie jumpsuit. The packs might be modeled / coloured with the movie in mind deliberately, and the regular line will be more in line with the cartoon.
Peter’s lookin’ pretty good, but I hope they go with the original design of Janine from Season 1, and not the version on the back of the package.
Ok… phew! The khaki- movie uniform is just a one-off for Comic-Con from Citizen Ghost. Very slick Mattel! They’ve done their homework! The only last two things that distress me about the new Real Ghostbusters line… if the Real Ghostbusters figures uniforms ARE intended to feature their animated colors… will their uniforms (HOPEFULLY!) be plastic?!? Let’s hope so! And I have a sneaking suspision that this figure features the movie pack with the Real Ghostbusters colors because it’s, again, a “Citizen Ghost” figure. And hopefully the full line WILL feature the animated Real Ghostbusters proton packs and their apropriate colors. Or else.. it just wouldn’t make sense or even look right. Don’t get me wrong.. Mattel is doing awesome stuff and I’m very excited. But time will tell if they get this right…
BTW… Almost forgot to mention: Mattel has hit a homerun with the COLOR of the figure packaging for their Real Ghostbusters line! Featuring that “purpilish” card background and white border… very much makes it feel like the good ‘ol 80′s Kenner days. Gives me the *warm n’ fuzzies*. Hahaha!!!!!
Pass. I stopped buying toys 20 years ago.
Potentially a nice diversion from what we all thought might be coming from new RGB figures….
Kinda makes sense that Mattel would want to differentiate the new stuff from the previously released, we’ll see if I actually buy them though.
Oh, quit complaining–Venkman’s pantlegs aren’t tucked in!!!
I want these. I want these bad.
The figure is good, but they need to fix the pack. It’s just a repainting of the movie pack.
In the episode “Citizen Ghost”, the proton packs were RGB style. There really isn’t a reason to have it like the movie style. They’re just being cheap and lazy because they know these will sell.
So it looks like my money i would have spent on a walter peck fig will be going towards these. I like how they look, and i can’t wait to see how the rest of the figures will turn out. (Especially Stay puft!)
Not to be ignorent but people read too much into this being a library ghost. I knew detachable proton packs where coming sooner than later. I have a sneaky suspicion about ecto-1 like I always had. I very happy with this release. It’s not done how it was expected to……….but to do it too much like Kenner would have been a lawsuit.
Well, when I first posted my comment on the early reveal article and mentioned Citizen Ghost – I really meant it more as a joke, but I guess I was right. haha
It’s a neat exclusive, but one that I think I only need one of to keep MIB – because it won’t match anything else – including the later RGB figures in their regular colors. As somebody mentioned, if they had done the figure itself in translucent green for the ghost version – that would have completely blown me away.
personally I don’t buy figures larger than 6″(I do make exceptions from time to time)they just get too pricey and take up too much space weather they are on a display shelf or not.
looks like I will be passing on the whole RGB line. but, this will help me to save up for Peter and maybe peck(still deciding on him).
Definitely pass. Guess I’m. Way more picky than some of ya’ll. What’s with the HUGE 70s Elvis collar? And the tiny pack? Will stick with Kenner for RGB.
why does the packaging state “try me”?
[...] reposted their photos, but you might want to check out the Attack of the Show report, as the screengrabs there actually show better, closer details. Retro-Action™ The Real [...]
Because the figures will randomly speak 4 lines from the TV show.
Why does the packaging say “Adult Collection” on it???
What’s adult about it?
lol, is stay-puf now more popular than janine?
If you guys got the RGB dvd box set the original promo clip the pack looked like a cross from the movie and the final RGB look which I think is awesome.
In the video, Scott Neitlich, brand manager at Mattel, says: “This is Peter, who’s a Comic-Con exclusive. He’s not in his traditional animated colors because there’s actually one episode, ‘Citizen Ghost’, where they wear their movie outfits. For Comic-Con, to do something unique and special, we put Peter in his movie colors as he appears in that one single episode.”
Using my Marketing BS-to-English translator: “For Comic-Con, to do something cheap and lazy, we took our existing Peter movie figure, changed his head sculpt to something that resembles The Real Ghostbusters Peter, and because the animated character appears in his movie colors in that one single episode, we used that as a loophole so that we could call this a Real Ghostbusters figure.”
And even if they didn’t use the same exact materials as the movie Peter figure, they sure didn’t do much original work either. This thing that screams of being lazy. It’s a very poor decision to make the first figure in the line look nothing like the iconic characters from the series. Common sense, and good marketing, says to do the iconic stufd first, THEN do the obscure stuff.
The only good thing about the figure is the talking feature, which will presumably use Peter’s lines ripped from the episode itself.
Pass! Peter looks REALLY cheap. Blah blah… “jump suit from that episode” HA! For me they didn’t do any homework at all. It’s just a way to make fast money! I wanted some new RGB-Toys really bad but this time Mattel disappoints me.
