Ghostheads make Ghostbusters inspired gametype for Halo: Reach

GBFans member and fan designer, Mecandes, has put together a customized gametype for Halo: Reach that is inspired by Ghostbusters. While not a mod, as some readers might be familiar with, in which uniforms or even game models are changed to reflect the world of Ghostbusters, Halo: Reach allows gamers a high level of configurability and creative use of game assets, as well as the ability to share their work with others. Read Mecandes’ description and you’ll see the inspiration;

Who doesn’t see the Focus Rifle and think “Ghostbusters”? So, my son and I worked on creating a fun Ghost Busters Firefight mode. You play as one of the four Ghostbusters [four lives]. You’re armed with a Proton Pack [jet pack, unusable] and Neutrona Wand particle thrower [focus rifle, unlimited ammo]. You must defend the Ecto Containment Unit [Generator Defense] from the invading minions of Gozer the Gozerian, who seek to release the spooks, spectres and ghosts within it. Remember: you’re a Ghostbuster in a CWU-27p flight suit, not a Spartan in MJOLNIR armor — and don’t cross the streams! It’s actually quite a challenging game mode. Optionally, a player can choose blue team and spawn as a Class 5 free-roaming vapor! You’re hard to see [poor camo], can float [low gravity and high jump], can project a full-torso apparition [hologram], and can slime the Ghostbusters [with an energy sword].

Nods to the father-son duo for making the map (I may have to get my hands on the game now), and big ups to Rob Huston for pointing me at the link.

Carl Kamph, Mattel's PKE replica designer, interviewed at GBFans

Don’t stand around here gawping. GBFans has a great interview with Mattel designer, Carl Kamph, how talks about the process involved in replicating the Ghostbusters PKE meter, and just how much effort went into making it as movie accurate as possible.

GBFans: Was the Mattel PKE Meter based off of an Iona shoe polisher, or was it a custom sculpt?

Carl: With the help of E-Bay and the Iona shoe polisher, it was my goal as a designer to offer the most authentic and affordable prop to the GB Fans. I was able to pull the original patent application to make certain that the correct wall thicknesses, draft angles, length and width were as close to the original as possible. In the end some details had to be adjusted to pass manufacturing and safety concerns, but it is important to know that each decision was made with all Ghostbuster Fans in mind.

Ghostbusting. You're doing it wrong.

I considered skating past this one. On the one hand, nothing says they’re really ghostheads – the press just called them Ghostbusters because, well, Ghostbusters is awesome and makes a goodlooking headline in any decade. On the other hand, some ghostheads are also self-styled paranormal researchers. In which case, it’s important to point out the obvious;

DON’T BREAK INTO JOINTS LOOKING FOR GHOSTS!

At best, you’re breaking the law. At worst, you’re breaking the law and some falls and breaks their necks. And if your suspicions are true, they will then come back and haunt you for participating in their endeaddening.

Basically, Halloween is coming. Bust ghosts, not locks, doors, gravestones, and one another. Play safe kids.
