"I Just Watched Ghostbusters For the First Time."

Alan Ford, New York actor and comedian, is starting a new column at SideSpliter.com, in which he watches iconic comedies that he somehow missed, starting with (inconceivably) Ghostbusters. It’s refreshing to read a smart review of the quarter-century old film, compared to the depressing string of tween Twitter comments like; “I just watched Ghostbusters and didn’t laugh once.” or “Ghostbusters wasn’t scary at all.” Sigh.

Anyhow, please do check out Alan’s first column – I’m looking forward to the rest, as they are posted.

So, Ghostbusters. I should mention that I have technically seen this movie, but not since the fall of the Soviet Union, when my review would probably have been written in D’Nealian, so I figured it was time. It’s considered by many to be the seminal comedy film of the 1980s. But is it funny to someone with no loyalty to it? In a word: definitely.

Autumn Society 3G show wows opening attendees – GB royalty in attendance!

The Autumn Society’s Gremlins, Goonies, and Ghostbusters show, launched this past weekend in LA, is off to a massive start, with the West Coast Ghostbusters driving one Mr. Ernie Hudson to the show in their replica Ecto-1 – also in attendance were Michael C. Gross, Ghostbusters producer and artist in his own right, as well as Seth Green, and Robin Shelby (Slimer in Ghostbusters 2)

The society has already released a teaser video of Hudson arriving in style.

Be sure to check out TAS website for lots of great posts by the various participating artists, as well as their Flickr page for the show (currently only has the video, but will have photos added soon.)

But, if nothing else, pour yourself a glass of Ghostbusters energy drink and pretend you where there by watching this video by Michael Midnight.

Nice work to Bryan, Eric, and Sean from the WCGBs and giant slap on the back to Joseph “Chogrin” Game, TAS pres and curator of the show, for putting on an art show that stands out from the crowd.

DragonCon wrap up

Did you go? Did you have fun?

With the 501st investing all their con-mojo at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, it turns out the largest contingent of fans at the event were… Ghostheads. Something like 9 Ectos and dozens of fans took part in the parade. As well, all the Ghostheads in attendance got a swanky Stay-Puft sticker from PC (to go with last year’s super-special PC button), as did quite a few regular con-goers.

GBFans.com has a number of post-con threads going on, which have gathered some great post-con materials;

Giant write-up on UGA student GB film

Clint Orr is completely ordinary. It’s his dream that isn’t.

“Over the years, it’s kind of turned into an obsession,” said Orr, a University alumnus who graduated in December.

The famous “Ghostbusters Mobile,” which is known for its random appearances around town, will be making its own silver screen debut.

The obsession would be with “Ghostbusters” — both the live-action and animated franchises — and the “it” would be his proposed fan film based on that work, “The Real Ghostbusters,” now 10 years and nearly $20,000 in the making.
