Toys R Us – Mattel holiday 4-pack… in-store only?

A few weeks back, Toys R Us posted the pre-order page for their exclusive, Mattel four-pack, which was to contain each of the four ‘busters, in GB2 suits, along with Slimer, and all of them sporting a removable Santa’s hat. Then the page went away. No clear answer was given as to way, but it’s looking more and more like the set might be killed before it ever sees the light of day.

From reader Hayden, who forwarded their email reply from TRU on the matter;

The Guest Service Team and

PC reader Travis has a similar response from the TRU phonelines;

I did the pre order for the TRU 4 Pack when it was still available. I got two different delivery dates, both of which have already passed. I called TRU customer service on Friday to see what was up and the guy I spoke with was severely baffled about the situation and you could tell it really bothered him that he didn’t have the answer. He said he would have to look into it further and get back with me. I got a call yesterday from another customer service rep who left the message that the “item has been removed from the site and has been discontinued.” He apologized because with this should have come an email that canceled my order and they were still looking into the reason why no emails were sent out. He said that I would have to call them back in order to cancel it because they would need my permission.

Alarming, BUT WAIT!

People have found the sets… in stores.
It’s looking like Toys R Us wants the item to drive people into their stores, so no online purchases are being allowed, currently.

If you pre-ordered, you will not have been charged, and wouldn’t be until the set was shipped, so right now, your best bet is to hit the stores. If you manage to find one, grab it.

Sorry for the bummer news gang, but it looks like Toys R Us dropped the ball by offering them online. That they are sending out “it’s on back order” boilerplate emails suggests they might still be dropping the ball, if the item will never end up online. A lot of fans that got in early may be sitting around, patiently waiting for their toys to come in, and they may never…

Just to add fuel to the confused fire, it looks like there are both with and without hats versions, but which and how many of each a store gets isn’t clear. So… it’s a dog eat dog world if you want to get one of these sets.
