To be fair, a completed “first draft” is better understood as sort of reaching the beta version of software — it’s past the alpha stage, has been worked on and evolving for months, lots of people have seen it and input on its various pre-beta forms, now it just needs debugging before its release. It’s the point where you could actually shoot a complete movie based on it.

So, a draft script might well have been basically done for months, the production team and studio high-ups have doubtless read it and know what the movie’s going to be and largely what the dialogue is months ago, but a COMPLETED first draft is the stage where it’s ready to be shopped around to talent and casting people, because it’s pretty much done.

Nothing inconsistent there, just a little Hollywood terminology causing confusion. I’m pretty sure Murray told them not to bother him about the script until they’ve got one that’s good enough to shoot with. Also sure he’ll want to make sure plenty of his input is in the final script.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Revision and reworking never hurts – even though it does sting the writer ego and make it feel like the worst experience of their careers. None of us would be here talking about Ghostbusters had Sony have produced Aykroyd’s first nonsensical draft.

Mr. Aykroyd could have been saying those things to get us thirsty fans off of his back (he probably can’t go to the supermarket without someone asking him, so its understandable). Just because Reitman says its the first draft doesn’t mean that it is, there has obviously been alot of misinformation, so who really knows.This does still goes along with what Dan Aykroyd was saying about filming could potentially begin in spring though,and if they’ve just sent it to Murray it is highly unlikely that it would take him all of February,March,even April to read it, but I have never read a script so what do I know LoL.

LOL at Hollywood people. I mean, seriously, they always say the same thing. Bruce Willis always says the latest Die Hard is always the “best Die Hard” when they are promoting it. Same with the Indiana Jones movies, Star Wars, etc. etc. etc. There is NO WAY a Ghostbusters III will be better than 1984′s Ghostbusters… it’ll be very fortunate if it’s any better than Ghostbusters II.

Is Bill Murray the Bill that Reitman is referring to. He said that “there were a lot of rumors on line about HIM reading the script and not liking it. He has yet to read it”
The only rumors about a “Bill” reading the script and not liking it were about Bill Murray, not Bill Hader.

Wait just a second, IDK if this has been brought up, but the response from Ivan says “Bill (Murray) has to read it. He hasn’t read it.” Are the posters of the article JUST IMPLYING that it’s Bill Murray, since his name is in parentheses. For all we know, he could have just spoke that “Bill Has Yet To Read It.” and people just assumed that it was a given that it was Bill Murray he spoke of. This could be Bill (Hader) that has yet to read it, after all it would make sense since he appears to be in the dark about things a little more then Bill Murray is.. For God Sakes, look at the recent change of heart that ol’ Peter Penkman has shown in recent months!

As far as how lengthy the writing process has been– I hate to give one of those “Friend of a friend” sources but, . . . Friend of a former Roommate of one of the two Office writers told him that the entire process has been the worst experience of his career. This “first draft” apparently had quite a few “work drafts” before it that kept getting shot down by the braintrust that’s actively involved with the project (Aykroyd, Ramis, Reitman presumably).

At this point, I just want the thing, praying that the May 2011 start date is still on for us all, and more-so the planned summer/holiday 2012 release dates. GB fans have waited long enough, I myself have waited since I was THREE YEARS OLD, for this movie to finally be a dream come true for me! Now, more then ever, it’s finally a possibility, and everyone seems to be dragging their feet a bit, or are they? My honest feelings are that more is done and being done then meets the eye, I still have full 100% faith in this film, and I will not lose my faith in this. In my heart, Good things are happening for Ghostbusters III.

@Ray, the office writers have written 15 episodes each supposably from 2005-2010. And I still don’t see how it takes this long to write out a script even if your doing it here and there. Is it a letter at a time?
