Lee Eisenberg comments on GB3

Lee Eisenberg, who is co-writing the Ghostbusters 3 script with Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, is returning to his alma matter, Connecticut College to kick of a series of lectures, “Great Beginnings: Conversations with Alumni.” – while talking to The Day, Eisenberg had a few things to say about Ghostbusters 3, most in line with what we’ve heard thus far, but which we’ve rarely heard from either him or writing partner, Gene Stupnitsky directly.

“We’ve been working really closely with Ivan Reitman for a couple years on it. Dan Aykroyd has been really involved. Harold Ramis has been very involved – we’re sharing a story credit on it with him. Then we reworked the script. I mean, that script went through a lot of rewrites, and it kept getting, we think at least, tighter and funnier. It took a little bit to really understand the tone of a movie like ‘Ghostbusters.’ It’s really scary when you’re writing characters you grew up on. … The last thing you want to do is disappoint.

“Right now, we have a script we haven’t worked on probably in a couple of months, and we’re waiting for Bill Murray to read it. People seem excited about it, and the studio seems high on it. … We’re very proud of it. We worked really hard on it, and I think it’d be a really fun movie.”

The Atlantic urges Bill Murray to make Ghostbusters 3

The Atlantic should sound familiar to most of you – it features quite prominently in Ghostbusters. If you’re still not sure what I mean, then have a look at this re-imagining by Dapper Dan Schoening.

Ah, yes. Right?

Well, The Atlantic has written a letter to Bill Murray, asking him to make Ghostbusters 3, not just for our sake, but his own.

Make Ghostbusters 3, Bill. Please? The long-awaited, long-long-long-rumored third installment could start shooting this year—but only if you agree to appear in it. Ivan Reitman, on a recent publicity tour for No Strings Attached, said you have been sent a reworked script. They even used your idea about Venkman dying and coming back to haunt the cast, too That’s badass. You’ll be like Swayze in Ghost, dude. With Sigourney Weaver as your Demi Moore. Pretty please? Maybe you could turn the whole thing to your advantage. Back when the studios were fighting over who would make the first Ghostbusters, you used that leverage to get The Razor’s Edge financed. You could do the same now—agree to make the threequel of the studio will finance a film you do care about.

OK, admittedly, author Hampton Stevens is a little behind the curve, as the whole Venkman-as-ghost thing has pretty much been left on the cutting room floor of screenplays that didn’t survive to production, but all in all, his heart is in the right place. Bill could use some love and laughs. We all could. And if that’s not enough, consider it job creation during a recession.

Previews taking orders on Ecto-rod!

This month’s Previews catalog is listing Paul Francis’ awesome Ecto-rod wallhanging (yes, it is no longer a clock – given that the only place to put it would be over the GB logo, I can’t say I’m disappointed)!

The listing has a suggested retail price of $80 and is due out April 27th, 2011. Big ups to Derek Fox for the heads up!

New environment trailer for Sanctum of Slime, plus a release date

Atari has released a new trailer for Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, featuring environments. The game continues to be intriguing to anybody who’s ever wanted to wear a proton pack and shoot ghosts, but as this in the Internet, more than a few have decided the video is underwhelming.

More importantly, Atari’s twitter account let slip that “Spring 2011” is in fact “March 23rd”, so mark your calendar.
