Friday, June 3 · 10:30am – 1:30pm
On Friday, June 3 beginning at 11:00 a.m. officials of the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA), Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA), New York City Firefighters, community leaders, citizens and elected officials will march across the Brooklyn Bridge to protest Mayor Bloomberg’s plan to close 20 fire companies.
They will then hold a major Save the Fire Companies rally in City Hall Park (Broadway side) beginning at 11:45 a.m., with speeches by various political and union officials. Come on down and March Across the Brooklyn Bridge to protest Mayor Bloombergs insane plan.

How is it insane, when you are over budget to make cut backs? I love Ghostbusters and i hate to see the firehouse close, but we live in a time where we all spent way to much money and now we have to pay the price for our indulgences. Instead of waisting more money in protests, if you dont want your public sector to be cut, then maybe you can present a better idea that would save more money from a different area or show how if all public sector areas trimmed back 5% of their budget then no closings are needed, protesting and screaming will not solve the problem it just pushes the problem further down the road and makes it harder on everyone, and for all we know the firehouse closing could mean a private person buys it and turns it into some film museum or tourist trap all related to Ghostbusters.
A couple of us from the Minions may be there. We just stopped by the firehouse earlier today for some photos, so we got a chance to meet with some of the firefighters there. So we may be there on Friday.
Well, I’ve done my own digging into the closure of our favourite firehouse, even asking about how it would be sold off. After some twists and turns, this is the answer I received:
“John,
No fire companies have been definitively slated for closure. The list was a draft of proposed fire companies that could be closed.
I have nothing to offer you regarding a possible sale of the building in question.
Thank you.
-Frank Dwyer, FDNY Press Office”
Looks like nothing is certain yet, but I am there in spirit for the March!
@Bilarious, I see what you’re saying. However the cuts are being made in the wrong places. NYC needs fire houses, police, teachers and hospitals. Imagine NYC on 9/11 but with a drastically reduced fireman and police presence due to budget cuts. There should be cuts but those cuts SHOULD come from the wealthy, the corporations, the city, state, and government officials and other areas. Doesn’t ex-president wannabe Donald Trump live in NYC? Why does he get massive tax cuts yet firehouses get closed down? What’s more important? The lives a nearby firehouse can save or Trump saving enough from the Bush (now Obama) Tax Cuts to start another failed venture?
