Well, Mattypalooza – Mattycollector.com’s Comic-Con panel – is over, and here’s the rundown on their Ghostbusters merch. Here’s the summary;
6″ Figs we already know about (some from further back, some from preview night)
- (Aug. 2011) Ready to Believe You Egon (comes with Library Ghost and THREE PKE meters)
- (Oct. 2011) Slime Blower Ray (comes with cinema ghost and slimer blower)
- (Dec. 2011) Vigo (comes with lenticular “painting” backdrop – meaning at one angle, it’s his mountain of skulls. At another, it’s the goofy Fettuccine GBs)
- (Oct. 2011) 12″ Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore 2-pack (comes with one proton pack, with stream, one slime blower, one KUD meter, one ghost trap, one boombox, and one Toastmaster. Package also seems to feature Fettuccine portraits (shrug – dunno).
- (Oct. 2011) Prop Replica – Ghost Trap. GBFans has the SRP at $120.
- (Fall 2011) Retro Action 2 pack – Janine and Samhain with accessories, but better yet, a to-scale Slimer and 22″ firehouse diorama playset.
This will be a Toys R Us exclusive.
A few figs were announced for next year, including;
- (January 2012) Ready to Believe You Peter (with VHS camera and Taxi Cab ghost)
- Dana Barrett as Zuul (slated for April 2012)
- The Rookie from GB Video Game (this will be the Club Ecto-1 exclusive figure – comes with pack and an open trap)
Mattel also said they are looking to put out accessory packs for the figures.
Head to GBFans for all their pics
Head to Toy Ark for all their pics and the transcript of the livechat (which isn’t as exciting as it sounds)

woah! the dana one already looks amazing! Must have! I hope the trap ships to the uk
Bit of a shame that janine has been made into that retro range would love to see a gb2 janine instead! other than that all looking good!
Zuul look like a statue… better than nothing… stashing money for two of these right now.
“Tenticular?” I’ve seen enough hentai to know where this is headed.
Dana/Zuul is just the approval sculpt – there’s lots of painting to go. And apparently it will have two sets of legs, so she can stand AND vamp.
Atropos, you have a filthy mind. Stay dirty, my friend…
Mattel… (as if anyone from Mattel is reading this… “sigh”) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give The Rookie the upgraded pack from the game with the PDS, Boson Dart and all of those other cool goodies too!!!!!!!! Pretty pretty PLEASE (and while your at it, please start sculpting your figures of the GBs with the waist strap from the pack… The fact that it’s missing on your figures while you pay attention to detail with everything else irks the living shit out of me…)!!!
I thought the Stay Puft diorama was going to be sold on the website too? After the con is over, maybe?
Of course, now that I watched the 15 minute review video, I see that he will be sold post-con.
Vigo’s a probable, since Kenner dropped the ball twenty two years ago and didn’t make that one. I realize licensing issues can be arcane, but it still makes me shake my head that, other than an ECTO-1 with a different sticker set and the “Ecto Charger” (Slime Blower) a best selling toy line at the peak of it’s popularity didn’t take advantage of it’s connection to a big budget summer movie.
Dana? Maybe. The female lead from the movies never had a figure at all prior to this, not being in the cartoon. Certainly a more likely buy that Walter Peck or Louis Tully ever were in my book.
The Rookie? Snore. This guy is a nameless cipher, and if they hadn’t announced an important character like Dana at the same time I probably would have said something unpleasant. Still, it saves Mattel some tooling costs and obviously a lot of people are happy about it.
But Retro Action Janine and Samhain–that’s my Must Buy there. The “Janine’s Genie” flight suit is certainly better than the more commonly used pink atrocity; Samhain is one of the series best villains, so that’s an extra. Will probably move quite a few units to people who didn’t care about the rest of the Retro Action line, and Mego-style collectors will probably be interested.
Looks like a good line-up.
@Fritz
If I recall correctly, they only had a license for the “The Real Ghostbusters”, not “Ghostbusters”.
lol…Like I said, licensing laws can be a bit arcane. They got away with the ECTO-1A and the “Ecto Charger” somehow, though.
So much to have sink in! Thanks castewar as always for compiling it all for easy consumption. I seriously doubt the rookie will have the upgraded pack, but it sure would be nice. I am on record as not liking the retro figures, but I admit that Samhain is pretty cool looking, and I’ll take Janine in any form. Vigo is amazing and Dana is a very welcome surprise. The ghosts are looking good as well. Maybe an articulated terror dog next year?
@Fritz I’m in agreement re: Vigo. I remember that Lionel Kiddie City had a banner promoting Ghostbusters II even!
I have got to get the Janine and SamHain two pack! Zuul would be nice as well…
Fritz, I couldn’t agree with you more, especially about the Retro Action Janine and Samhain two-pack. That might be the first Mattel GB figure I actually buy, even though it’s in the horrible Retro Action style.
Not sure how I feel about Vigo or Dana just yet.
I think the only one really happy about the Rookie figure is Ryan French
I have to say, and I know that I’ve said it a million times, we’re getting a Vigo and possessed Zuul Dana figure. And we’re getting a movie styled trap that has a million features that eight year old me would have killed for back in 1989. And we’re getting an exclusive figure based on a video game which was released two years ago. And we’re getting a new monthly on-going comic book from a reputable company with great talents attached to it. And there’s a third movie looming. And… well… it just goes on and on. Mattel doing their best to appease a wide variety of fans. IDW doing their best to appease a wide variety of fans.
For a fanbase that was completely stagnant no more than ten years ago, it’s a really great time to be a fan. Enjoy it, kids. I know I am.
You’re an 8 year old born in 1989? Wow; the wonders of genetic engineering…
8 year old him in 1989, not him at 8 years old now.
Mattel Dream List:
Spook Central rooftop/Gozer’s temple playset
Janoshz (Nanny Ghost) figure
Ivo Shandor/The Arcitect figure
River of Slime playset
…and of course, an ECTO-1 vehicle
Oh yeah, and as for the Club Ecto-exclusive figure, I’d like to see a Louis Tully in Spengler’s jumpsuit w/earmuffs and packaged with a Slimer w/bus driver’s cap…
my dream has come true at last i always.
wanted dana as zuul action figure i hope.
mattel gets the seal of approval by both .
columbia pictures and sigourney weaver.
it’ll be supercool to see her immortalised on my display.
