SDCC 2011: It’s a trap… video! (two of them, actually)

The con must go on, but video of Mattel’s upcoming (October 2011, same as the PKE meter last year… so don’t expect it until November) ghost trap has hit the web.

Ernie Cline risked life or limb (read: stopped ogling the Back to the Future Delorean for a few minutes to let a Mattel rep convince him he needs one) and sent us some video. The camera was vertical, so is tipped onto the side on YouTube, but it’s 720p regardless. Big thanks to Ernie for thinking of us.

As well, GBFans has a much longer video that gets into some real nitty-gritty (Tape measure. Not kidding) and also gets in much closer, so be sure to check out both videos. Tip of the hat to Andy of the SoCalGBs for cornering a Mattel rep for 8 minutes!

And it’s short, but Mattel’s senior brand honcho Scott Neitlich, walked G4′s Blair Butler through some of their SDCC reveals, including the ghost trap (and a fantastic close-up of Vigo’s head) – Go to their page so you can watch it in HD. (thanks for the heads up, Steven)

    Ok Thats awesome.

    I have 2 questions though

1- is there a price yet?

2- is this going to face the same restrictions as the PKE meter? (as in not available to europe)

  2. Caitlindevi says:

Just heard the price on the second vid $135…wow more than I expected

  3. Dr.D says:

Are you kidding me? $135 for a Trap with lights and sounds, detachable cord, removable cartridge and pedal? That’s pretty cheap.

  4. Joey says:

i think i am going into shock with this prop…. I AM GONNA GET ONE THE DAY THEY ARE RELEASED!!!

  5. Antonio says:

Hell yeah $135 is cheap. Considering that the relatively small and simpler PKE meter was $60, I was expecting a price around $200-300 for a trap with working lights, sounds, and working pedal.

  6. castewar says:

GBFans had heard $120. So, it looks like the official cost isn’t locked yet, but at worse, it looks like $135 will be the high end.

  7. Superstarseven says:

Yeah, just heard $120 while watching SDCC footage on G4.

  8. Mike Bruns says:

This looks awesome. Wondering if they have a longer cord that comes with it?

  9. Big T says:

You know it kills me that people complain about prices when it comes to things like this. I mean yea the price is going to be high but what do you expect. We are adults and as adults the prices for the things that we want are going to be higher. Also while I’m a die hard Ghostbusters fan, I don’t have the time or the resources to make my own props. So when companies like Mattel decide to make this stuff, I’m willing to get it for the asking price. Because its better to have something that looks official than to make a cheap knock off. Hopefully they will continue with their replica line, so I can give my children something cooler than what I had when I was young.

  10. Kevin says:

This is definitely a day-one purchase for me. Looks like a lot of fun.

  11. Antonio says:

^ You’d better get it on day one, Kevin, as it’s probably gonna sell out fast.

  12. Bryan says:

I’m with Dr. D and Big T on this one. The $120-$135 price is great. Try buying just a ghost trap electronics kit ( that doesn’t do as much as this one does ) and then building the rest. See where your cost comes out. Matty’s kind of batting it out of the park on this one.
