The long and the short of it is this – The Alamo Draft House is famous for it’s revival screenings, which include a lot of guest speakers and in particular, super-awesome movie posters. But when they did Ghostbusters a couple of years back, people wanted to know why a poster never materialized. Older Ghostheads can probably guess why (likeness rights), but the head of Mondo Creative – makers and marketers of said super-awesome posters – Justin Ishmael has made it clear that they wanted to make and sell a poster, and they still do if they can ever sort it all out.
Thanks to Tyler for the heads up!

Love the RGB ghost trap on the shelf!
And there’s a Madball – the baseball with the tongue sticking out – a little to the left of the RGB trap.
I don’t know what poster designs they have in mind, but surely there are ways to do an awesome poster without using the likenesses of the actors.
I am a little confused as to whether the problem is the likenesses of the actor’s faces, or that they can’t put a character dressed as a ghostbuster at all on the poster, regardless of whose face it has.
Previous posters have tended to feature the faces of the principle characters, so I suspect that’s the main problem. As you say, it’s extremely easy to do amazing posters without the faces, I just don’t think that’s their preference.
