Windows Germany lifts Ghostbusters to promote WinPhone 7.5

It’s a bit of a weird party – members of the German press are given a new Windows Phone 7.5 and invited to run around an old hotel. Scattered throughout are actors playing out parts of Ghostbusters (some more successfully than others), Q-codes that link to information ab out the phones and the ghost haunting the hotel, and special rooms where they can use the phones to spot the ghosts (as well as get slimed by them.) One can only assume that some official agreement was in place, given the clear use of the GB logo (not to mention Slimer.) Or may not – either way, cool way to promote a phone. Very reminiscent of the Ghostbusters Secret Cinema in the UK from a few years back.

  1. I think that the reason it reminds you of Secret Cinema is because those are the folks Microsoft contacted to help them with this :-)

Fabien Riggal, director of Future Shorts and Secret Cinema, is interviewed and named in the video. Steve Nitzschner, creative director for Windows Phone, mentioned “Secret Cinema” in his clip. That was the only word I understood as I don’t speak German.

  2. I love the Ghostbusters-themed photos by photographer Oliver Rath that were being exhibited at the event. They were seen rather fleetingly in the video, though I did manage to pull some frames and upload a gallery of them on the Spook Central Facebook page.

  3. Photographer Oliver Rath has given me copies of all of his Ghostbusters artistic photographs and permission to publish them on my site. They can be found on Spook Central here and here.
