Woot! Hooray for owning a Smartphone! Details are very early, but here’s the overview;
The new game from XMG that we are most excited about is their new Ghostbusters title. This game has an augmented reality battle system, immersing you in real time battle against ghosts and ghouls. And I know you aren’t afraid of no ghost!
GhostbustersEquip yourself with proton guns and other equipment, and you can capture paranormal menaces like a true Ghostbuster. There are location-based features that enable players to interact with their surroundings and catch site-specific ghosts, like library or subway ghosts. There is also a social aspect that encourages players to team up with friends and other Ghostbusters. You can gain experience points (XP) to upgrade your ghost fighting equipment so that you can rid the world of these menacing specters forever.
Ghostbusters will be released for both iOS and Android in July (or sooner) of this year. It will be a freemium title.

It looks like I’ll have something to look forward to for my new iPod Touch.
The article says this game will be a freemium title. Since I never heard of that work before – though I recognize the two words that it’s a combination of… and I like the “free” part – I looked up the definition:
“Freemium is a business model that works by offering a product or service free of charge (typically digital offerings such as software, content, games, web services or other) while charging a premium for advanced features, functionality, or related products and services.”
I wonder how much of the Ghostbusters game you’ll actually be able to play for free, or if you’ll be forced to pay for things in order to actually progress in it.
Must…have…this…game!! Hopefully it comes out on my smartphone. I hope, i hope, i hope.
Freemium games tend to take you money in one of two ways. The first is that you can play the entire game, but additional levels will eventually become available and you have to buy them. The second is that you can play the game for free forever, but there is some aspect of it that has to be replenished, and they bank on you getting tired of waiting for the natural refresh time, and you pay to get around it (like buying more gas in Farmville to run your harvesters – you don’t HAVE to buy the gas, but your farm eventually gets so big and the free gas comes so infrequently, you spend a buck to speed things up.)
