Yeah, Ghostbusters is like Star Trek and Star Wars in that it isn’t so much about one very specific set of characters, it’s about a concept that many characters could fit into. Anybody could do the job of ghostbusting, and be part of the “Ghostbusters Universe”. It doesn’t have to be Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore. As long as the characters are likable and well-written, and the right actors are playing them, it could work with just about anyone.

It’s not like it’s Indiana Jones, where they’re pretty much stuck with one character and one actor to play him (excluding Young Indy).

You put in order my own ideas, this is exactly what I was thinking these days about this new "probability". Agree from A to Z. I love Bill Murray but... I think Ghostbusters is bigger than him (I really met Ghostbusters trhough the animated cartoon which I still love). So. I think something new can be done and maybe expanded next.

Ryan - that's the best time to write, thanks for the feedback!

And to answer your question, I've mainly just been sitting around. Y'know. Playing Words with Friends and stalking people on Facebook to pass the time.

I just got back from New York and I visited the Library and the Fire House. It was a dream come true to stand in front of Hook and Ladder #8. Thank you for posting this article. I agree with everything you have said so I won't blather the same points over. I guess we will wait and see. I love the IDW series and picked up Ghostbusters for the Wi because Dan did the artwork for it and it is a blast. If you only have the PS3 or Xbox version it is worth a buy. It is cheap enough and it is just different enouph to give it a try.

Geez Troy... what took you so long with another one of these? What? Like you have a life and a job or something?!! C'mon now, that's just ridiculous talk!! In all seriousness... great article, as always. If Part-3 IS ever filmed, with Murray not in it... even if the filmed turned out great on it's own merits, it sickens me to know that, proffesional "film reviewers" (a term I use ever-so LOOSLY): including every shmuck from Rotten Tomatoes to YouTube will ONLY concentrate on how Murray is sorely missed. We all know that's what'll end-up happening. And it already frustrates me! lol!! On the other hand, speaking of frustration... I say GOOD RIDANTS!!! If Murray doesn't want to take part... SCREW 'EM!!! What he has done over VERY MANY years to, in a "round-about" way, underhand the production of GB3 in the past with his constant whining and "back in forth"... (which, ultimately I realized he's most likely doing to his enjoyment)... and to the legions of GB Fans that brought him from a Star to a SUPERSTAR with this franchise... I would put it to Ramis, Reitman, Aykroyd and Sony to make THE BEST Ghostbusters return they could possible E-V-E-R try to do and rub it right in his smug(ly) face!! >:-|

To your earlier point, I have always scratched my head when reading comments from "fans" full of vitriolic rage demanding specific things from their "favorite" artist/actor. I hope more people read your article and think about the ugly outcome that ensues when forcing an artist's hand.

Really good point, Chad - and actually one that I was going to make but feared that my last four PC articles of gushing about the IDW book, as well as being drawn by Tristan on that custom cover would have made me appear a little TOO biased. And I am. Seriously, that book is one of the best things to happen to fans in a really long time. I can't continue to say it enough.

It was refreshing to hear your outlook, as I share a similar view. Until a press release is issued by the studio, I take each update with a grain of salt. Over the years I've garnered enough salt to help small villages during the wintertime, but that's another story.

As much as it would be great to get clarity on a possible third film, I think there are too many other more interesting things happening for fans at the moment. My interests have been focused on the new IDW ongoing Ghostbusters comic. Each issue leaves me wondering how awesome it would be to get Dan Schoening, Tristan Jones, Erik Burnham and Luis Delgado in an animation studio.

It was really nice to read another column from Troy on Proton Charging!
