I have not come to bury Hostess, not to praise them.
We reported months back that the company – which was already so shaky it was owned by two investment firms, not a company per se – was thinking of selling off the Hostess brand.
The sad situation everyone is talking about today is the result of the needs of a troubled corporation not being able to meet the needs of their workers. As of today, not a single Ding Dong or Twinkie is being produced. Tomorrow, if the union relents, it may start again… only to be sold as planned. And if the union doesn't agree, well… Hostess will be sold as planned.
Which means the Twinkie is not dead. It is impossible that it won't return – the brand is too iconic.
So we shall not mourn the Twinkie, but instead wait for it's return – hopefully sooner rather than later.
