Concept art of Ghostbusters at Universal Studios Dubailand revealed!

Yeah. Dubailand. A giant (they don’t do small in Dubai) Universal Studios in Dubai is in the works, with the official website talking about rides such as Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure and Revenge of the Mummy, and park attractions such as Waterworld and The Blue Brothers. Basically stuff you’d expect in a Universal Studios. Now, via the website of someone working on the project in some capacity, come a series of art concepts, including the New York Zone… complete with Ghostbusters firehall! Now word on whether the park will incorporate anything similar to the old Universal Studios shows or having an Ecto-1 driving around the park. Honestly, from what I can make from the website that reported the concept art, the project that started four years ago hit a financial bump, but may or may not be back on track. And if it does get made, you still have to go to Dubai to see it. But hey… still so cool. Thanks to Stingray Travel for the...

The NEW Ghostbusters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE IDW INTRODUCES THE NEW GHOSTBUSTERS THIS FEBRUARY New series following IDW’s ongoing Ghostbusters San Diego, CA (November 14, 2012) – The Ghostbusters are gone, spirited away by some dastardly demons from another dimension! But spectral shenanigans haven’t ceased in the city that never sleeps, meaning a new group will need to step up and don the proton packs. IDW Publishing and Sony Pictures Consumer Products are pleased to announce the launch of an all-new GHOSTBUSTERS ongoing comic series, picking up where the first mega-hit ongoing volume left off. The Ghostbusters creative super-team of Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening (along with series colorist-extraordinaire Luis Antonio Delgado) return to bust out more ectoplasmic excitement in this second ongoing volume. “We’ve seen the Ghostbusters deal with a newly minted servant of Gozer, a child-possessing demon, the Spirit of Death, a cross-country road trip and sloppy business rivals,” explained writer Burnham. “But we’ve never seen what might happen if something got the jump on them. This story takes a look at what might happen if the Ghostbusters were abducted. The city still needs paranormal exterminators, after all.” GHOSTBUSTERS #1 marks the exciting beginning of “The New Ghostbusters” storyline, and will include four covers by Schoening, each featuring one of the New Ghostbusters. Additionally, each issue will contain an all-new REAL GHOSTBUSTERS 2-page back-up story written and drawn by Burnham. Kicking off in February, will the New Ghostbusters be able to rescue their predecessors, or will they share the same fate? “Editing the GHOSTBUSTERS ongoing series for IDW has been the highlight of my editorial career,” said series editor Tom Waltz. “Way back when we started, we prayed we’d be able to finish four issues. And now, sixteen issues in the can and a new ongoing volume ready to rock the world, I’m proud to say GHOSTBUSTERS has proven to be a tremendous success for IDW, and that’s completely owed to our awesome fans and the super-powered creative team concocting comic book magic month after month!” Fans of the series should ask their local comic book shop about the variant Xermanico cover, and the unique variant tribute cover by Schoening, only for loyal subscription box customers! GHOSTBUSTERS #1 ($3.99, 32 pages,...

Column: The Private Sector – Somebody Turn on the Lights!

Sorry guys, I was out on a smoke break (and I don’t even smoke, isn’t that weird). What’d I miss? (Pauses as he hears about Chris putting the site into cryofreeze)… Oh? Is that all? Okay. No, do not adjust your sets, you’re not in some crazy time vortex where the site has auto-updated and posted an old article. Chris has given me the okay to post from time to time here on PC to keep some new content running in addition to the Broadsheets (how cool are those) and I thought, why not jump back in with another Private Sector. Proton Charging was and always will continue to be a daily read for me. It’s in my DNA now much as I’m sure some people find themselves hitting the address bar in Firefox and absentmindedly typing in Facebook because they need their fix. There was a daily ritual in the morning of hitting the trades and hitting all the fansites including Proton Charging that I won’t be able to shake and it’s a testament to what Chris built here. Much as Ghostbusters HQ was the go-to for people to hear me run rampant (that’s all it was really good for, right?) – Chris had built the go-to for the no-nonsense news and features. You could always cut through the noise with a quick view of Proton Charging, and get a pretty good gauge on the response based on the articulate and pointed comments. So let’s stick to what Proton Charging was really known for… the news. Anybody heard any news lately? Something about some guy named Murray and a third movie? I may have seen it in a place or two. Looking to the left in the GBFans aggregate RSS feed, I don’t see anything remotely close to mentioning it but… …all kidding aside though, it seems like there are peaks and valleys, ups and downs to the on-going saga of Ghostbusters III on a daily basis. And for us fans, that’s not exactly news. After all, we’ve been enduring this since the first days that I remember jumping into the online fandom in the mid-90s. Will they? Won’t they? Bill Murray is in! Bill Murray would rather...

Of Corinthians and Carpathians.

The bag of Stay-Puft Marshmallows you see on Dana’s kitchen counter was hand-made by the props department; they designed the label and silk-screened it onto the blank plastic bag. Before they made the actual bag, they did (as it’s been explained to me) three test screen pulls on a sheet of mylar. Through a confluence of events, I acquired one of those three test screen pulls. It remains my favorite Ghostbusters collectible. I mention the screen because shortly after I bought it, I got an email from a gentleman who wanted to buy it. While he was familiar with the fan community, it was pretty clear he didn’t really participate in it. In fact, as time went one I discovered that there were more than a few fans of the film that weren’t that interested in the community. The guy just wanted to collect. Cool. And that was the beginning and the end of his involvement with Ghostbusters – to the point that he, to this day, writes every couple of years to see if I’ve changed my mind and would be willing to sell my test Stay-Puft logo to him. Every time he does, I gently decline and think about all the cool stuff I’ve amassed that I really don’t get time to appreciate much any more. Most of it is in boxes from my last move. At the same time, a lot of the fans – some newer, and some who had been involved in the community since they were younger – were now moms and dads, and they loved sharing Ghostbusters with their kids. They build foam packs and mod power-wheels. I like that, and very shortly, I’ll have that. Or, I could have that. I’ll have the kid part at least… So, what’s your point, Chris? Short answer? I think I’m done. Running a Ghostbusters news site was always hard, particularly in the decade where there was actually very little news and you had to carve your website by hand, but it was never work. It was how I expressed my love of the movie, and the plan was to do it for as long as I could. Turns out, it’s however long it takes...

IDW teases upcoming 4-part Summer event!

IDW editor/writer/honcho/mench Tom Waltz sent over this teaser image for an upcoming, four-part, Summer event in the monthly Ghostbusters comic. And “event” doesn’t seem to suffice. At a guess, I’m thinking the teaser image will be covers for each of the four parts, but more on that later. According to Waltz, the event kicks off in issue #9 (May according to the image teaser). Stay tuned and don’t forget to ask you local comic shop to bring it in for you! Click to see full size...

Lego minifig decals for teeny tiny little Ghostbusters!

There are two ways to turn your Lego minifigs into Ghostbusters. Well, three, if you count using your imagination. Pfft. Imagination if for kids and suckers! No, what you want to do is either buy unofficial third-party Lego equipment or do like this guy, and make decal/stickers to apply to the minifig bodies. Anybody with a little photoshop talent could do this themselves, but hey, if someone has already done the heavy lifting, $6 is a steal! Lego actually does both – spacemen have cool spacesuit decals on the front, but air tank equipment on the back, not a flat sticker like the proton packs shown here (as awesome as they are). So, I guess I’m arguing, buy a sheet of these decals as well as the GB Lego equipment, and put the two together! Thanks to Rodger for the...
