There’s something weird. It don’t look good. Who you gonna call? Now, don’t just say “The Ghostbusters,” because thanks to some messy ’80s trademark laws, any old gang of supernatural investigators can name themselves after the iconic Marshmallow-exploding foursome who starred in 1984′s Ghostbusters. No, you don’t want any fake ghost-busters; you want The Real Ghostbusters, who starred in the cartoon series of the same name for seven proton pack-tastic seasons. The series’ title was later amended to Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters to reflect the increased importance of the chubby green ghoul. And that’s fine; when we were kids, we all loved Slimer. But kids are stupid, so let’s get down to brass tacks here: Who’s the coolest member of the Real Ghostbusters?
While Minimates Ray, Egon, Janine, and a host of Real Ghostbusters ghosts will be out in Toys R Us two-packs at the end of June, Diamond Select revealed today that Peter, Winston, Louis, and Mr. Stay-Puft (yes, another one) will be available as a specialty store exclusive (meaning, you have to buy it through your local comic shop or any other store that buy through Diamond’s Preview Catalog… meaning comic shops, mostly) four-pack!
A Diamond Select Release! Art Asylum Designs & Sculpts Following up on the hit Ghostbusters Movie line, DST now continues the line based on the ’80s cartoon series, The Real Ghostbusters! Based on the character designs from cartoon, this specialty market exclusive four-pack includes Peter Venkman in his uniform, Winston in uniform, Staypuft (evil), Janine Melnitz, and the set exclusive Lewis Tully! Each Minimate stands 2.5″ tall with 14 points of articulation and a variety of removable and interchangeable parts and accessories and is packed on a blister card.
Look for these to be out by the end of September 2011.
Art Asylum has posted pack shots for the first wave of their Real Ghostbusters minimates, due on June 24th – the art on the back of the two-packs reveals that some small changes were made, such as making Slimer transparent instead of opaque (though he doesn’t keep his familiar, snaggletoothed mug from the cartoons.)
Toys R Us are currently taking online pre-orders on the Janine/Slimer and Ray/Egon packs, but not the Exclusive packs with the famous Real Ghostbusters ghosts (Samhain, Boogeyman, Egyptian Ghost, and Energy Terror Dog… ok, those last two aren’t famous RGB ghosts – cool, but not famous in the cartoon, compared to the other two.)
The Arizona Ghostbusters have taken a WeChe arcade cabinet and kitted it out with a Real Ghostbusters arcade PCB – the group intends to make the Phoenix Comic Con the cabinet’s first outing, so if you intend to attend, bring quarters!
I’m liking this. It is very much a fan trailer, in that it is not perfect. But it has a lot of amazing… amazing… where it counts. Some solid effects, some good humour, and the frickin’ BOOGEYMAN! In your face even. And it’s apparently 45 minutes long. That’s some serious work. I can’t wait until this film hits the web on March 13th.
