DVDs to be repackaged

Posted on January 26, 2006

March 14th, Sony Home Entertainment will be releasing “repackaged” editions of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 on DVD. As far as anyone can tell, this is code for “we’ll make more money that way.”

Each movie will be sold for a SRP of $14.94. This is five cents cheaper than the double pack is currently available for.

So, if you want my advice, get the double pack now - it doesn’t look like it or the booklet it comes with will be available for much longer.

Also, Ghostbusters is going to be rereleased in a Bill Murray 3-Pack, and according to a report I read in a magazine, there are going to be new, never before seen features included on all 3. Here’s the amazon link:

Already covered back in November - the 3-pack is on the shelves now and they are the same as have been available previous. Those never-before-seen extras are just marketing-speak - they’re selling it as if you don’t already own these movies. If you do, then you have the same discs as in the box. The only difference is that Groundhog Day and Stripes are in slim cases, like the most recent Ghostbusters DVD.

S’alright - I’m actually glad you brought it up. I saw the set at the local video store, which is when I discovered that the other movies were in slim-cases. I totally forgot to mention it anywhere until you reminded me.

When not even three months after the street release of the Double Feature set, retailers have lowered the prices from 14.99 to 7.99. This indication should tell Sony that ultamately sales are staggering. As to why they would rerelease a rerelease of a original 1999 DVD release sure beats the hell out of me. The only possibility other than Sony being a greedy corperation is it has some tie-in with the information in the Moranis interview.

This is a Ghostbusters news site - if I had news that ties the DVDs to the Moranis interview, I’d have posted it already.

The reason the Moranis interview hasn’t been posted isn’t because I have Earth shaking information and I’m a dramatic spaz that gets off on withholding it - I just don’t have the time to transcribe it.
