Back from LA - Hardcover barely on life support

Posted on May 16, 2006

I’m back, semi-rested, and commenters drank everything in my booze cabinet - nice.

For whomever asked, yes, I was at E3, but didn’t get to see much, as I was hustling my can all the time. I did get a look at Dead Rising, which is zombies, not ghosts, but is a lot of fun.

The big news upon my return is Sebastien retreating from the public eye until he has good news about the GB hardcover, which may mean we never see Seb again. For those of you who want to complain, feel free to do-so in a constructive manner. For those of you who want to complain that Proton Charging made you buy the book (you know how you are) and now you feel ripped off and want to blame me, get stuffed. Caveat Emptor, fanboy - welcome to the club, we all got bit.

UPDATE - Paul at Spook Central spotted awhile back a new forum for grousing about the Hardcover. It sounds like a good home for anyone with a gripe to air.

You’re asking the wrong guy - I’m in the same boat as you. Have you requested a refund from 88mph?

  3. beezer May 16, 2006 4:05 pm

They aren’t giving refunds according to an email sent in February(?) and the “contact us” button is a link to a 404 error. And he has left weaverhall boards and won’t return PMs. That’s the info I have. Hope that helps for what it’s worth.

I say we give him til September, then start a mass lawsuit. This is Bs. i may never get my money or my HC because i’m moving and my address is going to change.

    I’m in on the lawsuit

A Lawsuit would be expensive. If you are a U.S. citizen I know it would have to be filed in federal court since the company is in Canada. The filing charge is $200.00. We would have to get alot of people to make it worth the $40.00, assuming only one copy was published.

Hey this sucks. I recently sent Sebastien a very polite (no, for real) message and never got a reply. No wonder why. I “bought” my HC through Graham Crackers, so maybe I’ll be able to cancel it. Too bad really, I was looking foward to the compilation with the colored Zeddemore Factor, Danny’s comments and hopefully all the variant covers.

At the very least, if this were reported to our local authorities would they be able to raise the issue? Technically what has been done is illegal!

According to what I heard from a lawyer is that this is international law and you have to work through the Canadian government if you live in the U.S.

If you paid by credit card, contact your credit card company and tell them to deny the charge (issue a chargeback) because the order was never filled.

This should get you your money back, and put some pressure on 88MPH.

Here’s some info from the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov) that may be of use to some people: “If you want to file a complaint about an online transaction that involves a foreign company, please use our econsumer.gov complaint form.”

    https://www.econsumer.gov/pls/econsumer/wimsnery2com.main?p_lang_seq=1

You can also file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center [a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C)]

    http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/

And of course you can file a complain with the Better Business Bureau.

    http://complaints.bbb.org/welcome2.asp

Will you get complete satisfaction with these complaints? Probably not. Those organizations may not do a damn thing, but at least complaints will be filed and that should be shameful enough for Sebastien.

If any one needs Sebastien’s contact info, here’s what he submitted to GoDaddy when he registered the 88mphstudios.com domain name:

    Sebastien Clavet
    PO Box 9925
    Quebec, Quebec G1V4C5
    Canada

    Phone(?): 418-234-0940
    E-Mail: corporate@88mphstudios.com

    Info found here:
    http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?domain=88mphstudios.com

This information should help in the filing of a complaint or a lawsuit.

By the way, you can buy the softcover (SC) edition from Amazon UK:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1845760751/

It contains everything that the HC is supposed to have (inc. the colored Zeddemore Factor), except for the Dan Aykroyd foreword and a different cover (plus it’s softcover not hardcover).

Not that you should be required to buy the SC, since you already paid for the HC, but I’m just letting you know what’s available NOW.
