Hudson makes annual ComicCon appearance, some GB3 talk

Posted on July 22, 2006

Promoting Snoop Dogg’s new horror film, Snoop Dogg Hood of Horror (say that five times fast), Ernie Hudson was inevitably asked about GB3 and gave a familiar answer.

“I’ve been hearing about Ghostbusters 3 for 20 years… Harold would love to [do it] and Dan would… Bill is the hold-out.”

This has been a stock answer for ten years now, but again, it’s always nice to hear that the gang is still willing, should production ever begin.

[update] Whoops. The IGN writer credited Harold Ramis with being the director of both the movies. But everything you read online is cold, hard fact, right Patrick?

[update] Some quick fact checking took place, and the article now lists Ramis as co-star.

88mh / Hasbro lawsuit

Posted on July 21, 2006

It appears Hasbro and 88mph Studios (publishers of the recent Ghostbusters comics) are locked in a lawsuit;

88MPH Studios, Inc. suing Hasbro, Inc.

Montmagny, QC, Canada - July 21, 2006 - Counterclaiming Hasbro’s own legal action, 88MPH Studios, the cross-plaintiff, is initiating its own lawsuit against the toy manufacturer, seeking 90006.23$ (cdn) worth of damages for wrongful doings and the non respect of multiple contractual terms in regards to a licensing agreement concerning the publication of Transformers related books.

The press release doesn’t say what the lawsuits are about, though presumably its over the Transformers licence - with Transformers movie coming soon, this could be interesting.

ComicCon - day one, there’s Bryan

Posted on July 20, 2006

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Bryan Fear and crew are possibly THE most high profile GB crew on the planet. Once again… pictures of Bryan and co.
I’m sure there will be more, but this is IGN - that’s not a half-bad score. If memory serves, from left to right, Eric Eseke (?), Eddie Davis, Bryan, and.. I don’t know who that is. Bryan, help me out.

Plugging Ghostbusters

Posted on July 20, 2006

Oooh, I love YouTube. Since it’s gone up, long-lost copies of The Bus Boy music video have turned up, amoung other priceless GB videos. But these few are particularly interesting, as they feature Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray promoting the movie on The Tonight Show and Letterman.

Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray on The Tonight Show

- Dan Aykroyd talks about psychic phenomenon with Johnny Carson
- Bill Murray joins Carson and Aykroyd
Dan talks about his favorite subject, the paranormal, and his grandfather, the crowd gets to watch the “successful test” clip, and better yet, we get to see a photo (one I’ve never seen before) of Aykroyd on the roof temple, getting hit with an aircannon. Awesome stuff.

Bill Murray on Letterman
- Bill Murray gives Dave some swag.
- Controversies! A naughty Zuul line!
And a supposedly false Murray/Aykroyd feud.

Man, I’d kill for that fly swatter. Plus listening to Murray talk about how they had to fight to keep a Zuul joke is top notch. And if that’s not enough, Dave, Bill, and an absent Dan become blood brothers.

[update] Paul at Spook Central has done a comprehensive scouring of YouTube for all things GB (including the above clips.) For the lazy amoung you, he also got a screengrab of Aykroyd getting hit by an air cannon.

Bill Murray on American Chopper

Posted on July 19, 2006

I remember watching a old episode of Saturday Night Live and at the final bow, Dan Aykroyd said the goodbyes for the cast, and then added in a personal call for anyone selling a particular motorcycle gastank to contact him. You’d think then, that if anyone was going to show up on American Chopper, it would be him.

But as it happens, it will be Bill Murray, when over a couple of episodes, the Teutle’s at Orange County Chopper build him a custom bike inspired by his Caddyshack character, Carl Spackler (and by extention, his favorite passtime, golf.) The show will air in the US Discovery channel on August 7th (I think it’s the same for Canada.) Check your listings for the repeat time that week.

Reitman retains GB3 hope. Not a lot, but some.

Posted on July 18, 2006

While promoting his new movie, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Reitman was inevitably asked about GB3. His reply was not encouraging, but at least it shows that if the monumental hoops involved could be jumped through, he would look forward to the chance to work with the co-stars again.

[Dan Aykroyd] has written a draft of something, but I think there are some sort of technical problems that have basically frozen the rights. We’re trying to do something about it now, but who knows? What makes me nostalgic for ‘Ghostbusters’ is to work with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis; that was the joy of working on ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Ghostbusters II. They’ve become old friends. That’s what you miss. It’s not staging a marshmallow man walking down Columbus Circle; that’s a pain in the ass. It’s much better getting [the actors] all in a room and doing something funny.”

Don’t get too excited - this is essentially a confirmation of common knowledge - that the rights to Ghostbusters are extremely complicated. And with Aykroyd and Ramis not currently interested in pushing to clear matters up, the movie remains a big “maybe.” Still, it’s nice to know that Reitman still has some fondness for the franchise.

We’ll assume he’d like to work with Ernie Hudson again as well.

Not slated for release until August 20th, Titan’s third collection of Marvel UK’s Real Ghostbusters reprints hit comic shops last week. So, if you were planning to pick it up, you might want to check your local store - even Amazon is still convinced it isn’t released.

GB Misc

Posted on July 6, 2006

A few quick notes - first off, the latest issue of Premiere magazine (July/August 2006) is the Comedy Issue. Besides a nice shot of Bill Murray, complete with nice commentary by Ivan Reitman, and besides a lot of Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis commentary on comedy (including working on movies such as Ghostbusters) and besides the whole issue being a good read for any fan of comedy, and despite Ghostbusters not making it into the oral history of comedy much (only so much space to talk about a lot of films), they did have a nicely prominant picture of Slimer, and Ghostbusters topped the list of ghostly comedies.

Wry Spirits - Ghostbusters, All Of Me, The Ghost Breakers, Topper, Beetlejuice

On an unrelated note, any fan of Dr. Who should keep an eye out for the second series episode, Army of Ghosts, which as you might expect, is ripe for a Ghostbusters reference - I don’t normally note GB references, but as a fan of Dr. Who, this one was nice. Thanks Gargoyle_223.
