Alex Upton sent along this great ad for the Phantom console system. The only thing that says Ghostbusters is the cartridge. The one, small, blurry shot of the screen shows what looks like a port of David Crane’s original game, but the kid is using a lightgun. So, I’m lost. If anyone is familiar with the system and version of the game, please let me know. Otherwise, have a good laugh. Run, kids! Run!
[UPDATE] I did a little searching, and the Phantom System is essentially a NES, officially licensed from Nintendo, and produced around 1990 by Gradiente (as you can see at the end of the commercial.) While the company did sell unlicensed games, Ghostbusters was licensed from Activision. So, there you go.

Halloween is still just under a week away, but the costume pics have started rolling in - including Rob, who hits the skins at a party last night, and Keith sent in pics of his son, who was super-hyper from the arrival of his super-keen Proton Charging buttons (still a few left)!

Well, it’s Christmas Halloween time, and that means parties. Now, there’s a growing number of Ghostbuster related drinks out there, mostly for the adults, but a few wise-souls have put their minds to concocting GB drinks for tots and teetotallers.
Courage’s slime green drink*
1 scoop lime sherbert
1 scoop ice chips
1 can Buku Bite energy drink
Blend, then drop a citrus wedge on top for a smile and two Shocktarts for eyes. It’s soooooper sour, so be sure to yell “He slimed me!” after your first belt. Any green carbonated drink can be substituted, but Courage swears by the Buku Bite.
However, given that the people who first saw Ghostbusters are now all grown up, it should be no surprise that there’s a wealth of warm and fuzzy, booze GB drinks.

Halloween: Costume Time

Well, Halloween is nearly upon us - in nice (if too short) timing, Make Magazine has posted someone’s instructions to making a GB costume. The Make Magazine crowd tend to be a bit over-the-top, wiring gadgets into everything. I can’t contend as to how accurate the props are, thought they do look good - and bear in mind, they seem to have moved away from movie accuracy in a few areas to accomodate practical mechanisms. A cool read for anyone interested in GB props. (thanks Ken)
This is an excellent time to direct people to gbprops.com - THE place to chat with other GB prop builders, learn some tricks, find plans, etc.
However, a good GB costume takes time and patience, so both links are better suited to next year’s Halloween. But, as I tend to get a lot of emails about costumes, I’ll resurrect, for the umpteenth year in a row, my Cheap N’ Easy GB costume. It won’t win you any contests, but you can put it together in mere days.

I was in LA over the weekend, and on a whim, went looking for the firehall used for interior shooting on Ghostbusters one and two - all the trips I’ve made to LA, and I never once had a chance to see the firehall.
Located at 255 E. 5th street (at Maple), it sits in the middle of the toy district - the area is filled with toy companies, wholesalers, and stores. And the area is also filled with a lot of street citizens - all in all, a strange vibe area, but you can see why it’s such a popular shooting location in LA. You can also tell, by the people in front, just how much wider and larger, overall, the building is compared to its New York cousin. Movie magic kids - small building on the outside, twice as big on the inside.

13 Days of Halloween 2006

It’s Halloween in Canada, which means it’s time for Teletoon’s 13 Days of Halloween line-up. As before, they show all the spooky cartoons, including a fine helping of Real Ghostbusters. Thanks Toren, I totally forgot!
