Angry Video Game Nerd: GB on NES

Posted on February 28, 2007

Gametrailers.com regularly features the Angry Video Game Nerd video show - this week he’s taking a shot at the Ghostbusters game on the NES. And all his swearing aside, he’s right. It wasn’t exactly the slickest game in the book. It was pretty cool on the Atari, but not so much on the Nintendo 8bit system. In fact, it was pretty annoying.

Parental Warning: Dude likes to swear. A lot. Thanks to Chizzy for the heads up.

GB art challenge

Chad Kerychuk forwarded me a link to this Ghostbusters themed art challenge at BlueSky Studios - BlueSky are the team behind Ice Age and all its spin-offs (including those hilarious Scrat shorts.) The best part is that the artists at Rockstar San Diego often take up the challenge as well, and in this case produced two really sweet GB pieces.

This seems like the perfect time to resurrect this Proton Charging classic from ten years back (!) by my buddy Chad Montgomery (what’s with all the Chads?) - consider it Proton Charging’s entry for the challenge, entitled “A day in the life of Egon.”

“OK. So? She’s a dog.”

Posted on February 14, 2007

The New York Daily news listed their 100 most romantic New York movies - Ghostbusters, with its sweet tale of parapsychologist meet girl meets extra-dimensional entity, made the cut. Beat out by obvious mushy giants such as When Harry Met Sally, West Side Story, and even The Muppets Take Manhattan, Ghostbusters put on Bill Murray’s cheap moves to take #71.

Thanks to Matt R., hopeless romantic.

Profile on Paul Rudoff

Posted on February 12, 2007

PaulThe Scribble King blog has posted a large interview with Spook Central webmaster, Paul Rudhoff Rudoff. It’s a great talk with one of the longest running Ghostbuster webmasters around - it’s doubly interesting to myself, as I started PC at roughly the same time, so my view of GB online was similar, but slightly different. And of course neither of us was familiar with the other for the first while.

I only recall there being four Ghostbusters fan sites when I ventured out into the vast unknown of this thing called The Internet. There was a general fan site created by Bill Emkow, a Real Ghostbusters artwork site by Adrian “Burning Knight Raven” Adams, a Real Ghostbusters fan fiction site by Sheila Paulson, and a site that started to do an image-enhanced version of the Ghostbusters film script.

For me, I only recall Bill’s, Shiela’s, and Mr. Stay-puft’s World O Sounds. Important history lesson for you kids out there - search engines sucked back then and messageboards were rare at the time. Finding other sites was hit and miss or word of mouth. You kids have it easy! And get off my lawn!

Theatrical poster re-print

Posted on February 7, 2007

The latest issue of Previews catalogue, by Diamond Distributors, is offering a “Ghostbusters movie art poster”, which as it happens, turns out to be a reprint of the original theatrical poster for Ghostbusters. Check it out here, or at your local comic shop. The poster’s SRP is $7.25US.

Thanks to GozerJr for spotting this.

The company producing the poster is Pyramid Posters in the UK - they also have a variety of Ghostbusters mini-posters, postcards, stickers, and buttons available as well at their website. Thanks Seb for the info.

Aykroyd also talks GB3 - CGI?

Posted on February 2, 2007

Mike McGuire at CISN Country 103.9 in Edmonton got to interview Dan Aykroyd, who talked about GB3 as being in the talking stage, and the plan is for it to be CGI, sans Bill Murray and his likeness. So, some clarification is needed to make sense of these facts.

PART TWO IS THE GHOSTBUSTERS PORTION - however, the entire interview is great.

Thanks to Mike for the heads up - nice work man!

[UPDATE] Still working through the interview - it’s hard to listen while at work. But this is from Mike’s CISN blog post;

The hilight of the interview had to be when he confirmed that Ghostbusters III is in the works - albeit CGI, but Bill Murray has agreed to voice, so the authenticity (should) still be there!!!

Boy, aren’t Fridays like this exciting.

[UPDATE 2] Oh, and Mike. Stop sounding like me. Curse that Canadian twang.

[UPDATE 3] Nope, he’s talking about a movie. Seperate from the game. Still lots of details to fill in, and until a studio makes an announcement this isn’t official, but it’s very encouraging.

Transcript after the jump, thanks to Steve.

Aykroyd says he’s involved in GB video game.

Posted on February 2, 2007

Touring Canada with Jim Belushi as The Blues Brothers, Dan Arykoyd talked to the Edmonton Sun about a variety of things, one of which includes providing motion capture for a Ghostbusters video game, to be produced by VUE.

As such, he hasn’t much time left for Hollywood. Aside from a role in the Adam Sandler-starring I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, due out later this year, Aykroyd says he’s pretty much done with acting after a fun, 30-plus year run.

He will, however, be revisiting the role of Dr. Raymond Stantz for a Ghostbusters video game.

“Universal purchased the rights from Sony for a game. I’m actually going to have to perform and do some motion capture for them. That will be next year.”

So, apparently VUE is going to publish the game - but does this mean Zootfly is going to be the developer? It now explains why Sony yanked the Zootfly videos from YouTube, but is it a thumbs up or a thumbs down for the Slovenian dev studio?

Big thanks to Chad Kerychuk
