Aw, I thought it was going to be He-Man.

In case anyone is interested, the Ghostbusters bedecked Guitar Hero controller that has popped up in the Flickr sidebar is mine - for my birthday, a pal made me a custom applique. Not being me, they just thought it was a cool image. I recognize it from the boards - I just can’t remember who made it. If someone knows, drop me a line. Big thanks to Duncan for snapping the pic.

Movie’s Greatest Cars & Stephen K. Who?

Posted on March 25, 2007

I’m sorry, who is Stephen K. Amos? And why, as a comedy writer, does he think Ghostbusters is “appalingly dull”? In fact, the presenter is pretty catty about it too. Still, it’s nice to see a clip from the Greatest Movie Cars show, which aired over a year ago - and it’s nice to see that Sony is apparently working to preserve the car.

Speaking of the Ecto-mobile, back in 1989, some lucky Coke drinker won a replica. Who won is still a bit of a mystery, but the TV ad promoting the contest is kind of cool to see. Thanks to GozerJr for spotting that one.

Angry Video Game Nerd: GB on NES pt.2

Posted on March 21, 2007

Finding he still had enough anger for two reviews of the Ghostbusters game, the AVGN takes another swing - this time he compares and contrasts to the Atari/Commodore and the Sega versions. So much anger! And swearing - as last time, delicate ears need not apply.

And if you need more, he’s lining up a third episode that takes a look at the Sega Master System GB game and GB2 on the NES - stay tuned.

Thanks to Chizzy for the heads up.

Maybe if I hurry, I can still make it in time… oh, wait. It was in 1989.

Columbia files cease and desist against rapper.

Posted on March 21, 2007

After a couple of months of airplay on MTV, Mister F.A.B.’s Ghost Ride It video (featuring a replica Ecto-1) has caught the attention of Columbia Pictures, who don’t want their IP associating with the West Coast fad of getting out and climbing around on a moving car. Columbia has threatened legal action if the video isn’t pulled from airplay and Internet video outlets. The video nearly found F.A.B. banned from MTV, and required 52 editting changes to make it on MTV Jams (possibly why the premiere was originally delayed by a week.)

BallerStatus.com: Your video is about ghost riding, it’s teaching people how to do it. Are you getting flack for that?

Mistah FAB: I’m getting flack for it. People are saying what they wanna say, but it is what it is. Like for my video, I had to edit hella stuff. I edited the video like crazy. People always gonna stop something. When you infiltrate pop culture and cross over to other areas and other demographics, they like, “Woah.” The reason why a lot of people are trying to stop it is because they kids is doing it now. It ain’t no longer the black kids in the community doing it, it’s the white kids, the Filipinos, the Chinese… everybody’s doing it.

It’s a cultural shock right now. If you not a part of it, you’re trying to stop it. That’s what you call a movement, and I’m just happy to be at the forefront of it. People just gotta be responsible for what they doing and how they do it. It’s not safe, so you gotta be responsible.

Still, F.A.B. is sticking to a “any publicity is good publicity” philosophy.

“Publicity in the music industry, good or bad, is great. My momma always say, ‘When they stop talking about you is when you get worried,’” FAB confessed.

More on the story at GB Props, Ballerstatus.com, and PCs previous article on Mister F.A.B. (plus the offending video, at least until it gets yanked from YouTube) can be found here.

That’s a Digg Twinkie.

Posted on March 21, 2007

Ha ha. The later it is, the stupider my headlines.

If you’ve been trying to access the site this evening and had no luck, that’s because a few thousand other people were trying to get through the same “door” as you. It seems someone posted my Ron Jeremy article at Digg, and the response has been both enthusiastic and catty (”I spotted him ages ago!” Yeah? Well, I got him to confirm that it was actually him. MC Chris FTW!)

It’s quiet now, but it may flare up again, in which case welcome to all who have managed to get this far. I expect it will die down in time. I hope. My server is smoking.

More Real Ghostbusters after these messages

Posted on March 20, 2007

SteacyRGB
There’s a new magazine popping up in the UK called Cereal:Geek (not to be confused with plain old Geek magazine, which is also worth noting) that will come out quarterly - 100 pages, no ads - and focus on those wonderful, wasted Saturday mornings of youth. Specifically the 80s.

Dubious at first, I’ve now shelled out for the first issue - the sample pages I’ve seen feature brilliant articles and features, such as taking a cartoon episode and coming up with a cover for it, if it were a comic. Not to mention a lot of fantastic art - I mean really, what are the chances we’re going to see new M.A.S.K. art anywhere else?

In addition, NOW Comics RGB cover artist Ken Steacy has contributed not one, but two new pieces of RGB art for the issue - and it doesn’t end there. This from Cereal:Geek horses’ mouth (I don’t know if they have a horse - it’s just an expression.)

There’s one surprise article that I don’t want to ruin, but let’s just say it has Ghostbuster versus Ghostbuster - And I wrote a piece about the episode “Killerwatt” as there appeared to be a few animation companies working on that one episode… I already have people working on Real Ghostbusters illustrations for issue two…

I’m looking into subscription and off-line purchase opportunities - more on that soon.

Ernie Hudson podcast interview

Posted on March 17, 2007

Scott Kurtz (of PvP fame, source of many a GB reference… which reminds me of a reference I’ve been meaning to post. More on that later) has a regular podcast on TalkShoe, as does his pal Tim Bradstreet - the two appear on one another’s podcasts fairly frequently. In this case, on Bradstreet’s Bigfanboy podcast episode 14.1, he chats with Ernie Hudson. I haven’t got a clue what they talk about, I’m still listening - I’ll get back to you with details, but I’m sure it’s good for a listen. What, you think podcasts with GB cast are a dime dozen? Download it already!

Thanks to Dino Neill!

Custom Johnny Lightning cars

Posted on March 16, 2007

Apparently there’s a community of people who like to customize their Johnny Lightning cars, and Jason sent me some pics of his custom Ectos, including the beater version that Ray first buys (”Fourteen hundred.”), the car from the first film, and his tweaks to make the car from the second film (which is what the original toy car is supposed to be) more to his liking.

Ecto : The Beginning, is still being worked on.

Roast Rescue

Posted on March 16, 2007

TBS is long dead, and so is their web page, so I decided (after talking about roast beef sandwiches all this week) to rescue the recipe. Accordingly, I’ve updated the old post about the TBS Dinner and Movie recipe, with the actual recipe. Enjoy.
