GB3 = video game

entrevue
I should learn to go with my first instinct - given how close together Dan Aykroyd was talking about GB3, a GB video game, and how GB3 would be CGI, I initially assumed that he might have meant GB3 would be a video game. After hearing him on the radio interview, I second quessed myself.

And now, I’m going back to my original supposition - according to more talk from Aykroyd, GB3 will be a video game.

[UPDATE]
Go to the 6 minute mark for Dan’s comments on Ghostbusters.

“More of a chance to see the video game in ‘08.”

Aykroyd expands on the rumours, suggesting that it is in production, and will be available in “all formats.” Though I doubt the all formats part, it’s certainly well understood that GB game needs to be on most major platforms to succeed as best possible. I run a GB website, and even I’m not prepared to buy a PS3 to play a GB game.

So there is no Ghostbusters 3 movie? If that’s the case, my hopes and dreams had been raised to its peak and then demolished.

A game will be great though, and since I have all the next-gen systems I’m ready for whatever format it comes out for.

  4. Ben King Says:

Should it turn out to be the case that he was going on about a game all along… well, it’s just another disappointment to the GB3 faithful.

I can see Dan’s reasoning if such is the case, if he can’t get a third movie made, might as well do it as a game and not have to worry about blowing Sony’s budget.

  5. Flynn Says:

    Wow. What a mix-up!

  6. Flynn Says:

Actually, I think I might have just taken this report wrong…. does this mean GB3 is off the table, again? Or that the GB3 story will be in the game and the CG movie will be something different?

  7. hannibalking Says:

To me, it doesn’t sound like they are the same project at all, just that the game is more than likely to see the end of day than a movie.

  8. Chris Says:

Well actually now that I’ve re-watched it, it doesn’t sound like he’s denying the possiblity of a GBIII movie, and I don’t think you can conclude at all from what he says that the GBIII project mentioned on his radio interview means the video game. There really is no connection.

It sounded like the movie and the game were two different projects, and it now seems like the movie has hit a roadblock which has made Aykroyd unsure about the project’s future. But I think his mention of the game was simply a positive point that he wanted to bring up, something that seems to be a certainty.

My dissappointment is on hold for now, because I see nothing in the interview to suggest the movie project is dead, or that it was mistaken for the video game project.

Sorry folks, my name is Chris. I’m a 21 year old college student and I live in New Jersey. I’ve followed this website for a long time but never posted comments.

Just felt the need to introduce myself after posting a couple comments.

It should be pointed out that PC has always maintained a “we’ll know when we know” stance, but occasionally personal experience will lend the occasional opinion. When it comes to anything about GB3, whatever is most recent is taken as what is most correct and everything else has to be filtered through it.

In this case, no, GB3 isn’t off the table, but since we never knew how on-the-table it was, it’s hard to argue one way or another.

For the moment, the video game is by Dan’s own words the likeliest, meaning the movie is where it was all along… limbo.

Until he says something new, of course. :)
And hello Chris and all you new, recent posters.

  11. J dizzle Says:

dan actually says theres more chance of seeing the video game so hes not denied a movie maybe cause the movie would take longer??? maybe he meant theres more chance of seeing the game first? i doubt they could make the shostbusters 3 in cgi in like a year when there probably still at talking stage at best and getting everything greenlighted for it to be made

  12. Patrick Says:

Hi, my name is Patrick, I am not the other Patrick on this board, I just happen to have the same name…I have always visited this site, and like Chris wanted to post my thoughts on this…

I don’t necassarily think he is saying GB3 is dead in the water…I mean just a month ago he confirmed in that radio interview that GB3 was back in the making, so why would he go around and say it’s not?

I think these are 2 seperate projects and he wants to keep word on GB3 mum for now until a big announcement(hopefully) sometime in the future

  13. castewar Says:

Hi Patrick - there is some debate, as I kinda touched on in my post, about whether in the radio interview the GB3 he was refering to was a movie, or if he meant a video game, and was confusing the jargon.

As he talks about it more, and more importantly, if and when someone other than him talks about it, things will move away from all this speculation.

  14. Sam Helgerson Says:

I think that there still is going to be a movie. I think the reason why he said that its more of a chance to see the game in ‘08 is because usually whenever there is a game to a movie, the game comes out first. Now I know that it doesnt sound like it is going to be a game about the “new movie” but there is still a chance that the movie could be coming out and maybe they planned on coming out with the movie in ‘08 so now he says more of a chance for the game in ‘08 so maybe just maybe the movie will be out in ‘09.

  15. Matthew Says:

I wasn’t sure whather the game and the CGI movie were one and the same thing but at last we have an answer.

Great to hear that it will have the same feel as the first movie.

All I want to know now is who’s making it.

I cannot wait for this game!

  16. Paul Rudoff Says:

If we see a movie or a game, the best time for a release would be in 2009 - the 25th anniversary of the first film (and 20th anniversary of the second). That gives them a little over two years to get it all together - which should be plenty of time.

  17. Matthew Says:

I’ll be very interested to see if Murray lends his likeness to his character.

  18. Anthony Says:

Personally, I think that they may be testing the waters with this game… If the GAME does well, it may give them the head of steam to bankroll a final project. While it sucks that we were misled into thinking an actual sequel was being shot, its at least good that Aykroyd is involved in a genuine GB project. The game should be interesting to see. I mean, I dont play video games, but when that comes out, I will be buying it and the system it goes on. SO what does that tell you? Fuck… if enough people but Xboxes to play the damn thing, who knows, maybe Bill Gates would fund the next film? He could do Louis…

  19. peter Says:

i noticed on IMDB that dan and harold were involved in the EGB video games (writting credits.) i know IMDB isa little off sometimes, but in this case i think they are correct. so basically dan has tried to make stuff work before to restart the franchise. but nothing could be better then a cgi video game and/or movie of the old skool ghostbusters except a ghostbusters 3 back in the early 90s.

  20. Patrick Says:

I Heard on the radio station that there will be a Ghostbusters 3 in CGI! There will be GB Video game so theres two (2) things coming up for the GB Fans 1 the GB3 movie in CGI 2 the GB video game. It’s even on the radio station saying that what Dan Aykroyd said so GB3 movie in a cartoon will still happen!

  21. Patrick Says:

I just read a month ago that Dan Aykroyd said himself on the radio station that GB3 will be a movie cartoon and that Bill Murray agreed to voice his role! The Information is on the new Hell3ent info for GB3 movie! The GB Video game is different then from the GB3 movie. It said that Dan will appear on the video game. The way that this sounds it sounds the same there will be a GB3 movie in CGI and a GB video game read the info on the Hell3ent webpage it says it . The GB3 movie cartoon in CGI will STILL HAPPEN!!!!!!

  22. Ben King Says:

Way to scoop the story, Patrick.
While I’d agree this new interview suggests a third film, if in development is on hold… there isn’t anything that automatically rules it out either.

It’ll likely be a good few months before we see something really concrete. :)

  23. Patrick Says:

On the Radio Station why would Dan Aykroyd Lie about GB3 movie in CGI because Dan himslf said that Bill has agreed to voice his role. Doing GB3 in CGI would be less money to make thats what Dan said, he didn’t talk about the GB video game at all! The 2 GB Franchise are different so why would Dan lie now about GB3. Maybe somebody heard wrong what Dan said in this video because go back to the radio station Interview and Dan said that GB3 will be back in full CGI!

  24. castewar Says:

“The GB3 movie cartoon in CGI will STILL HAPPEN!!!!!!”

This is speculation - we don’t know anything. Nobody said Dan is lying. What is being said is that we may not have understood what Dan said. His two seperate interviews contradict certain details. So, as before, nobody is saying it’s not happening, we just don’t know exactly what is going on.

And H3llbent is just a fan website Patrick. They’re just guessing as much as the rest of us.

  25. Patrick Says:

I’m glad that the Ghostbusters 3 movie in CGI will still be happening! That’s what I said all along. I’m looking forward to see the GB3 movie cartoon in the Theaters! Finally GB3 will be made and I can’t wait to see it in the Theaters! I was telling the GB Fans that GB3 in CGI will still happen because after what this person saw on the net on this website!!

  26. Ben King Says:

There’s nothing saying it IS happening.
There’s nothing saying it ISN’T happening.

Let’s stop jumping to conclusions and just wait for another update, consider it in a sort of limbo until we can get something concrete.

I think you’re getting a bit too eager given how early on we are into things… Dan’s talking in riddles about a ‘Ghostbusters 3′ and it’s like you already have your space picked out in front of the movie theatre. :)

  27. Patrick Says:

Dan Aykroyd wouldn’t lie or change his mind after he was on the Country Radio station. Dan said himself on the radio station that GB3 will be a cartoon movie in CGI, and that Bill Murray agreed to voice his part Dr. Peter Venkman. I just read online that Ernie Hudson would love to voice his role for the GB3 movie cartoon but he hasn’t been asked yet. The video game is seprate from the movie! I still belive that GB3 in CGI will be made in a cartoon in Theaters in 2008 because Dan wouldn’t lie on the radio station and he knows that the GB Fans wants a GB3!!

  28. Patrick Says:

Either Way GB3 will be a movie in CGI! The video game is different! Look at the TMNT that’s in CGI and it’s in theaters and the video game is already in stores so GB3 will be the same a Cartoon movie in CGI and the videogame!

  32. Patrick Says:

There will still be a Ghostbusters 3 in CGI. The videogame is seprate from the film. When Dan was talking on this interview you could see the first Gb movie playing and Dan was talking about how the GB Cast are going to do a remake of the first GB movie in videogame format. Dan wouldn’t lie on the Country Radio Station so why would he lie now because he wasn’t liying he was saying that the GB cast will voice for the third GB movie in CGI and the remake of the first GB Movie in videogame format! GB3 in CGI will be made after the videogame get’s made!
