Now Hiring part 2

Posted on November 30, 2007

The now hiring site at ghostbustersgame.com (click the Now Hiring poster on the left, once the site loads) has gone live - you basically sign up all over again to get… banners. An underwhelming start, but it makes a certain amount of sense to make the hardcore fans seed-promote to a broader audience, before all the big goodies go live.

How many hardcore fans can there be, you may ask - enough that the site is sloooooow to load. If you’ve visited previously, you may need to clear your browser cache (F5 in most browsers) in order to see the new materials - a messageboard banner, Slimer wallpaper, and an AIM icon.

[UPDATE] - Odd. The messageboard banner on the website is one image, but in practice is another.

I signed up. Hopefully they do something cool with this, or at least offer more wallpapers. That one is cool, but I’d like to see one with the guys. >_>

Yeah, I signed up too… although I didn’t get a confirmation yet. Also, a second sign up let me re-sign up and didn’t flag me as having signed up once… I must say I’m a little confused. And the little envelope disappeared too. I guess I would have to sign up again to get that back? Oh well, if there’s a steady paycheck in it I’ll believe anything you say.

Yeah, I signed up as well, I must admit, I’m a little dissapointed at waiting, but, I will also admit that all the little things you could click on, including “If theres a steady paycheck in it, I’ll believe anything you say” was a nice little touch.

It wont work for me. It still says “Come back soon, Accepting applications 11/30/07″ WTF?

Mine works finally revealing a letter with the wallpaper and such. But at the top of the letter it said they will notified me later to an interview?? Did I really applied for a job at NYC when I live in the UK. lol

I bet they will tell you more news or more features to mess around with later in a month or so.

Like it says in the post, Jace, you may have to clear the browser cache - try refreshing the page first (F5).

I signed up two weeks ago for the Sierra newsletter, and I signed up today using the “Now Hiring” form (and I did click that box to be informed of GB Game and other news). I did not receive an e-mail confirmation either time. Has anyone received an e-mail confirmation or is there something screwy on my end?

What’s up with the Password field? Why ask us to create passwords if there is no need to use them? Well, there is no immediately apparent use for them, that is. If it’s something to be used in the future, why ask for them now? They could always e-mail those folks who they plan on “getting back to” and then ask for a password to be created.

Did anyone notice that on the list of platforms the applicant “games” on, that PC was missing? They had Macintosh, Gameboy Advance, and several that the GB game clearly isn’t going to be released on. I would have thought that they’d, at least, list the six systems the game is being made for. The only systems I have that are listed are PlayStation 2 (offline) and Gameboy Advance.

No, I didn’t get an email either. I’m assuming the passwords will come into play shortly (just another reason why I’m still convinced it will be a street-team, grass-roots marketing website, a la the Shaun of the Dead site they did.)

And PC is a throw away platform - it is always there, and it requires the least amount of specialized logistics to produce. They want to know numbers about who’s using the different consoles and portables, to better help them target their products.

A PS3 dev kit costs five figures and multiple people on the team need access to one, so, you’re buying a few. And that’s after they all get a PC. And there needs to be a PS3 specialized disc burn station. Etc. etc.

PC dev, everyone needs a PC. Done.

One of my two sign-ups must have went through correctly because today I received the November 2007 issue (yeah, “November” on December 4th!) of their “Sierra Insider” e-mail newsletter. (I certainly hope it was the second sign-up that went through because I want to be a part of what ever they have cooking for the GB game.)

I figured out the deal with the two different banner images. The happy Stay Puft image shown on the site is supposed to be what is displayed in the code, but it turns out someone switched it for the US site (only!). All of the other languages show the correct banner (though it’s darker than what is displayed). If you want to use the happy Stay Puft banner instead of the burnt one, use this url in your code:

    http://www.ghostbustersgame.com/uk/downloads/banner.jpg

This is the same as the US url, just with UK in place of US.

For alternate locations of happy Stay Puft, change UK to one of the following: IT / DE / FR / ES / AU.

And much much more! Click here for older news -->
