HA! Awkward, but funny headline.
An ad in UK’s Empire magazine lists coming Blu-Ray discs from Sony, including Ghostbusters in “2008″. This is in Region 2 format, but I have it on good authority that there will be a Region 1 Blu-Ray disc for the release of the Ghostbusters video game in fall.
This is not official, but (shrug) why not? PC will continue to monitor the situation until there is official confirmation.
Thanks to Maul for spotting the ad.

Hmm thats cool news! How much you wanna bet they might release a brand new GB1 and GB2 dvd?
Sony is really hoping this game sparks the franshice to new level.. I havent seen this much stuff happen in a short period of time since GB2 was coming out.
it makes sense…gb1 and gb2 blu rays NOW!!! oh yea and while ur at it sony…pay WB to release the batman movies on blu ray too!!!!!
So does this mean we can finally (perhaps) get a few cool extras on the dvds? Some packaging that does them justice? Like say, for one thing, following the packaging of the games [black and red] and maybe, just maybe, tucking in some of those GB2 deleted scenes? Oh it is to hope and wish at Christmas.
I didn’t include a picture, but the Region 2 case is black with the logo.
And as for new DVDs, that’s hard to say – probably not, as Sony’s money is bet on the future. They’ve spent money on two Ghostbuster DVD editions so far, so a third when they’re trying to get everyone to buy into HD, isn’t a sure bet. Time (and Blu-Ray v. DVD sales in the coming year) will tell though.
Seriously, I haven’t seen this much GB activity since about 92. And quite possibly 95. But I’m lovin’ this rash of GB news.
Well at least we get the covers back to true form
How much you want to bet the Blu-Ray editions will be basically a repackage of the existing DVDs “with a few tweaks”?
Obviously its HD which is awesome by any standards but as far as content there hasn’t been much of an improvement in almost a decade (Yeah the Green Case set shuffled the menu organization and GB2 got a make over and 2 RGB eps, but little beyond that).
I will gladly eat my words if they develop something new for it and try to make an effort to not only sell their brand but improve upon it, but I remain skeptical.
And I pray that this might get the to see the potential of the franchise and release RGB into (at least) Season Sets rather than “collectors dvds” that feature random episodes, that were a real pain to find.
Agreed. Im really hoping this game is the catalyst to help set off a renewed interest from the powers that be. Heres hoping we see a (true to form and honorable) merchandise resurgence.
I’d bet they use the new transfers they did back in 2005, as I suspect those weren’t done just for the 2005 DVD box set and PSP UMD. As for new bonus features, we can hope, but probably unlikely. My faith in Sony isn’t very high. I think the fact that a rival movie studio’s (Universal) game company is producing the new game, when Sony already has their own game studio AND game console, should be proof that they don’t care about the franchise.
By the way, I think the Dream Ghost Blu-Ray in the first film, right?
Ha thats good, nice one!
