…and shocks, and brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear end.
A secret squirrel sent in an update on the restoration of the Ecto-1 and Ecto-1a, currently underway. As you can see, the Ecto is in paint, and the Ecto-1a will follow shortly. So what’s it all mean? Well, it means, if I understand correctly, that they’ll both be done in January/February – the team working on the cars have picked January/February as their completion target.
And with the Ghostbusters video game announcement, I guess we know why they were getting restored.

Ecto-1, in paint.

Ecto-1a waiting for its turn.
Big thanks to the Hollywood Detective for sending us updates!

Here is another site with even more photos:

No this is not spam, these are real photos of both cars with closeups of all the components.
It’s recent photos (October 2007) of the Ecto 1 and Ecto 1A in the
workshop as they’re being restored.
They’re highly detailed photos, and it sounds like they’re in really
good hands now.
Never seen the engine before, and I hadn’t realised how much wiring went
into those cars!
They also show a lot of damage and parts that need to be replaced.
You can also see the top of the roof rack for the first time clearly
(because it’s on the floor!)
Good link! Thanks!
Words cant describe how happy I’am that these cars after many many yrs are getting restored. When I first broke the news a few months ago on the boards I would never imagine anything like this. These girls are going to be in the best shape since maybe 1959.. Remeber in both 84 and 89 these girls where just made to look pretty on screen and thats it.
Wow I can’t believe they are still standing!
I thought they only had one cadillac for the first to the second film because they mentioned on the DVD they only had one for the filming because of some reason which I don’t know.
At least they still exist and now going to last longer for another 20+ years, this is class. Only thing bugging is why, why are they restoring it? Is it for the game or is it for some 25 anniversary of ghostbusters?
Another secret squirrel told me the video game, the restorations, AND next years San Diego comicon are all binded together.
Another words, if you love Ghostbusters, be at the San Diego Comicon next year

Get some decent images and post them on here as soon as you can please!
