Cereal: Geek #3 hits the stands
Posted on February 28, 2008

As mentioned before, the third installment of Cereal: Geek magazine was on its way. And now it’s here! UK buyers can get it through the website and NA buyers can order it through Graham Cracker Comics (though it will not ship until March 3rd, according to GC). And once again, the editorial masterminds at CG have sent a sneak peak - this time, a certain favorite secretary is in some sort of trouble.

Weaver: No hope of Ghostbusters 3
Posted on February 26, 2008
Take a deep breath, Patrick.
In a recent interview with Premiere magazine, interviewer Ryan Stewart asked Sigourney Weaver about the possibility of a 3D animated Ghostbusters. Her answer, which he posted on his blog (presumably because it won’t be included in the final print interview) wasn’t encouraging for those looking forward to a little CGI ghost busting.
When I pointed out that the film industry’s renewed focus on next-gen 3D imagery and CG-rendered worlds means that perhaps a third Ghostbusters adventure is still feasible, Weaver looked at me a bit like I had just given her a toothache. She then took a big breath and said “Well, I just saw Ivan Reitman at this dinner, this lunch for his son, and, ummm, there’s no way.”

“If there’s a steady paycheck in it…”
Posted on February 22, 2008
It’s a big day for photos of Ghostbusters ads taken with crappy cellphone cameras;
The latest issue of Game Developer magazine featured the above full page ad by Terminal Reality, who are looking to hire a lot of new people. How many applicants will be working on Ghostbusters the video game, that’s another story, but…
This is the link printed on the ad, for any of you interested in applying. I call dibs on Lead Game Designer or Producer… wait, nevermind, I’m booked up.

Big News! But What?
Posted on February 22, 2008
Unavoidably, and depressingly missing one another by mere moments, I left San Francisco just as Troy (of GBHQ fame) was arriving - I having just attended the Game Developers Conference (with nothing I can talk about) and Troy just about to attend the pre-ComicCon con, WonderCon (also with nothing he can talk about.) He did however spot the Ghostbusters ad above in the con guide.
So! What it’s all mean. Who can truly say for sure, or at least without fear of getting stomped by an immaculately dressed Sony lawyer? But it sounds more and more like we all need to be in San Diego this Summer.
Thanks Troy!

“This is Ted and Annette Fleming…”
Posted on February 22, 2008
Remember how Alice the Librarian (from the very start of Ghostbusters) was featured on IGN as their Obscure Character of the Day? Well, more Ghostbusters peripheral characters have arrived - this time it’s Ted the hapless Dry Cleaner and his wife, Annette.
I’ve always had a soft spot for the small business Jack Sprat and his no-lean wife, specifically because of their awkward blocking during their big entrance - watch it again, you’ll see what I mean. Their sole performance is to greet the crowd and take off their coats - Louis directs them as such, with “Everybody, this is…” and “C’mon in, gimme your coats”, but they’re two steps ahead of him smiling to all, and peeling off their coats, then zoom straight out the far end of the frame. Functional, but obviously, deliberately hurried to move the scene along.
Big thanks to Liverstealer (dude, ew) for the heads up.
Slime is Popular
Posted on February 22, 2008
The talented and telegenic folks at Popular Science.com have posted a video demonstrating the time honored, home recipe for slime. It’s not transparent, as in the movies (that’s a different, SFX recipe), but it is slimey.

“That would have worked…”
Posted on February 17, 2008
It’s funny how it can sometimes take 25 years and a lifetime of reading to finally put two and two together regarding something about Ghostbusters, but here we are.
The thought, my thought, in question is at the very beginning of the film when Peter teases Egon;
“This reminds me of the time you tried to drill a hole in your head.”
To which a stern, mildly annoyed Egon insists it would have worked had Venkman not interfered. And there is - what would have worked? What was Egon up to?

China bans Ghostbusters, et al.
Posted on February 15, 2008
My other headline choice was “They ARE afraid of no ghosts!” But them my grammar alarm went off and I had to skip it.
Long story short, the Chinese government has banned all movies with ghosts, monsters, aliens, and pretty much anything they broadly categorize as being designed to “terrorize the senses.”
While there is no specific list of movies (the government has ordered filmmakers, video store owners, and local party members to self-regulate), by definition, Ghostbusters is out - after all, the film’s title there is “Fearless Ghost Catching Team That Doesn’t Fear Death.”

“Oh, Dana, it’s you.”
Posted on February 13, 2008

Another cast member for that Bollywood Ghostbusters remake has been semi-announced - meet Ameesha (Amisha) Patel. Don’t let the post title fool you - we don’t even know if there is a character named Dana in the movie, let alone if Patel is playing her part, but it’s certainly not hard to see her as the ghost-threatened musician.
The Patel girl is currently working on Shree Ashtavinayak’s Do Lucky in which she will star opposite Govinda and another film that is Sanjay Dutt’s home production and is reported as a remake of the Hollywood flick, Ghostbusters. Sanjay and Saif will star with Amisha while the rest of the cast is yet to be finalized…
Strange that the article mentions Saif Ali Khan as a co-star, as he wasn’t previously mentioned in the first article - he could be an additional ‘buster, or the others weren’t locked into the roles. Bollywood is so confusing!
But she’s hot, so that’s ok.
