Well, you asked for another Ghostbusters film

Posted on February 4, 2008

After 25 years, Bollywood (note the B) is giving the world what it wants. This is possibly the oddest news I’ve heard all day;

The first of the three [films] will be directed by Sujoy Ghosh and will have three heroes. According to our sources, apart from Dutt who plays one of the leads, the other two may be Salman Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. It is remake of Hollywood blockbuster Ghost Busters. The film is expected to go on the floors once Ghosh wraps up Alladdin, which has Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh.

Given the budget and production values of a contemporary Indian blockbuster (high - don’t let those scratchy old films on community cable fool you. Bollywood is big bucks and these guys are huge stars), this should be a spectacle, regardless of if you’re into Bollywood films or not - doubly so if they keep the song and dance numbers (95% likelihood.) And really, given that Dutt (producer and star) got his start in a remake of Rocky… c’mon. Tell me you’re not totally curious.

No word yet on when the film goes into production or when it is slated to be finished, but I don’t recall Bollywood being slow about finishing a product.

Thanks to Roshangar for the tip - I never would have found that one on my own.

this….will be someting strange…in my neighborhood…that is if someone brings it to my house. I dunno, I’d watch it just for laughs (the unintentional ones?)

    Ahhhh, crap.

I tripped over an Indian movie poster with a play spoof on the Ghostbuster logo during a random search the other day … I wonder if this is was it relates to. It may not

Now I have to remember how to find this thing again.

Is this a joke ? I’ll stick with the 2 Original Films…not this remake.

Nice to see Rob Schneider involved. That is Rob Schneider right? Right?

That’s the first of three Bollywood films… not the first of three Ghostbusters Bollywood films. (Shame… I was kind of hoping they’d film GB3: Hellbent…)

Great news… the Gobernor of my town (Durango, MEXICO, best known as MOVIELAND -actually filming DRAGONBALL movie-) just signed treats with BOLLYWOOD people to film some Indians movies in our town… cool.

Bemused - not happy, not sad, not mad, not angry. Those are a waste of energy, and frankly, some are a little alarming. Bollywood is a movie mill - they pump out movies at an insane rate, and “remake” American films all the time. And as I said, you’ll never see it unless you deliberately go looking for it.

It represents no thinking by Sony, as they’re likely not involved. It doesn’t mean anything to us except as an interesting look at one culture remaking a popular movie by another, which happens to be a favorite of ours.

It’s funny, that’s all it is.

    As Castewar said…chill guys
It should be rather amusing and interesting.

When I read the name Sanjay Dutt I thought it was the wrestler currently in TNA Wrestling. That would have be SO awesome! Apparently the wrestler spells his name Sonjay, one letter different than the actor

disappointed. I was expecting some good news.

  17. castewar February 15, 2008 12:33 pm

See, your hint that this might not be good news to everyone was that the headline was subdued, and not “HOLY COW A NEW GHOSTBUSTERS MOVIE! WHEEE!”

You just can’t please some people.

Toren, if / when I get my hands on this, we’re having a viewing party at your place.

Well i give them my best wishes. But i honestly cant take the memory of such a great movie from comedy legends such as Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis etc. being overcome by this. Im sure it will be good, but who knows. I think it should be left alone until the time is right!
