In the relatively short period time between me leaving the office and getting home today, something had gone terribly wrong at Ghostbusters Headquarters – it turns out the messageboard had taken up all the space it possibly could, interfering with its own operation and the operation of Troy’s other sites.
Having marched West ages ago, Troy announced that he’s shutting down the board and leaving the domain in placeholder mode – sad news to see one of the oldest GB sites and messageboards calling it a day, but as Troy himself puts it, it’s time for GB to be less job-like, and these days his web space priorities lie elsewhere (check it out and buy double copies), making it necessary to reclaim space from the HQ. You can’t fault a guy for wanting to kick back and relax after more than a decade of dedicated IT service to GB fans everywhere.
To the guy who always had a cooler computer than me, a glum salute from Proton Charging. Everybody feel free to show your love in the comments.

It’s a sad day. I’ll miss the ole’ girl, but sometimes people just gotta move on.
RiP GBHQ.
Sad news, that was a great GB communnity, though some members were real jerks.
So long, GBHQ.
I wish you safe travels Ghost Busters HQ! Thank you for your years of great GB Goodies!
Real sad. I knew something was up when I kept getting error messages last night.. twas like a home away from home (most of the time).
Thank God the community is still going strong with PC, GBFans, and hopefully GBN again.
God speed, Troy.
I’ll see some of you at the Still Playing With Toys MB..
A sad day indeed. GBHQ was the first Ghostbusters website I frequented. In fact, I had my own column on their for awhile, “The Rude Report”. Farewell GBHQ, may angels sing thee to thy rest.
Wow,
i remember Waaay back when the site was sort of new.
Awesome times and i made some new accquaintances through those very boards who were just awesome people.
Thank-you GBHQ for all you have done and you deserve this long awaited Rest.
A sad day indeed…
GBHQ was the second Ghostbusters website I ever went to (Mr. Stay Pufts World O’ Sounds was first) and I remember getting so excited by the prospects of Ghostbusters 3! Sitting in a Cyber Cafe (I believe in ’97…) getting my first real experiance with the internet, that first visit will allways have a fond place in my heart, GBHQ was also the doorway for me to find Bill Emkos site (as well as others) and the GB message board where I first got involved in the community. So Troy I salute you! Thank you for helping start shape me as a fan and reintroducing me to one of my greatest loves!
Personally I think that the more sites there are the more it splits up the fan community because some visit this site and some visit that site. Hopefully those who were regular posters at HQ will now come over to Ghostbusters.net and the discussions will be even better.
Don’t get me wrong GBHQ was a great site but I don’t think it offered anything that you can’t get at Ghostbusters.net.
Yeah it really is a sad day. I remember years ago when I was doing Ghostbusters fan art and ol’ Netty was good cool enough to put all of it online. It was the encouragement of Ghostheads thru that site that I pursued my career in Graphic Design and actually ended up making something of myself from it.
Thanks Troy (if you’re reading) for letting me have a place to play for so many years.

Could always ask for donations via paypal. TFW2005.com tried it and actually overshot the dollar amount to get a better server to host the site. The rest of the money, they say, will be saved for when they need to get an even better server down the road.
Couldn’t hurt to try. If you don’t hit the mark after awhile you could always just refund everybody.
But I understand the fatigue of having to keep up a site like it’s a job. It kind of sucks the fun out of it. So long GBHQ.
Thanks for the good times GBHQ, as I was a member there from the very start. Ghostbusters.net will never be able to offer the freedom Troy gave us, and gbfans only comes a close second, so there I will be. But I won’t forget the good times, and the jerks that made that place our own.
Christ, GBHQ no more…
God, as if I didn’t feel old enough already. I’ll miss the site sincerely.
GBHQ will be missed! Before I really hung out at GB Central there was Bill’s and GBHQ.I just loved the feel of the site and all that Gb Central offered was the forum switch from Bill’s. Once we hit those I believe as some one else called them “dark ages” I was right back to GBHQ. I saw the site go through all of its changes and loved them all, even the occasional hard on the eyes grid background one. Spook Central and GBHQ were my daily GB site visits and now both have gone to a more archive mode (though Spook central is more active then it was a few years ago.). I for one will never return to GBN so hopefully GBfans grows and grows and Proton Charging keeps giving us the news!
You will be missed GBHQ thank you for always being there when I came back.
I was hoping it was pretty clear that the comments were intended for well-wishes and good-lucks and your-site-was-awesomes for Troy. If it wasn’t, consider the matter reaffirmed.
Affirmative…all the best to you, Troy, and thanks for all your years of hard work and dedication. We all look forward to, hopefully, more of your future GB contributions.
See ya on the other side, Troy!
Wow I remember this was one of the first Internet sites I ever used to browse. I was 12 then and Im 22 now. Sad day indeed – and thanks Troy for linking to my site Ectogoo back in ’98! Appreciated that, I remember you liked the logo. Haha. Peace.
Hey guys, thanks so much for all the kind words (and to the others that sent me lengthy emails, I promise I’ll return them all when I get back from vacation).
It’s great to hear that the site affected so many others as much as it did to me. Mav’s gone from slumming it doing site redesigns for me to building a client list miles long. Enterline’s gone from budding SPT artist that I met on the HQ boards to a dude that the big publishers are about to start fighting over…
It certainly was a hard decision, especially after all this time. But knowing how strong sites like Chris’ and AJ’s are right now means that folks shouldn’t morn the loss long. Your Dad took Ol’ Yeller back out to the shed but mom brought you two dogs that can spin plates, catch frisbees, and grab beers out of the fridge for you. You won’t miss the old mangy hound that long I’m sure.
We’ve all known that I’m a selfish bastard from day one (which is the main reason the message board opened in the first place), I’m just keeping true to form by kicking back and enjoying the next few months as a casual fan.
If you’re coming to San Diego for the big Comic-Con announcement, stop me and grab a picture. I’d love to put together some sort of a GBHQ yearbook for the archived site – plus I’ll buy those of you of age a beer…
Farewell from the MTGB!
I just found out the sad news. After reading the note on GBHQ, I can certainly understand why he had to do it. When the fun is lost, it’s time to step away.
There’s just a few of us old timers left. Spook Central, Proton Charging, and Sheila’s RGB Fan Fic site are, I think, the oldest GB sites still online. Mr. Stay Puft’s World O’ Sounds might still be out there, but I don’t think it’s been updated in over 10 years. I do hope Troy will check in from time to time as a fan, so that his presence can still be felt.
We’ve had good times, and it’s the memories that make it all worth it. We’ll always have Paris…and Egon’s Workshop!
