This kinda bites; BestBuy.com doesn't even HAVE this on their site and I'd like to get it from them 'cause my sister ended up buying just $106 shy of $2500 from them with her RewardZone acct and if she reaches that threshold, she/I/we can get 25% off future purchases...but not only that, Amazon still hasn't lowered their price (they usually have KILLER deals on just about everything) and they also don't have a picture of this thing...has it too been postponed? I sure hope not...I've been salivating over this since I first read this tidbit...of course, I'm talking about the regular-DVD set, not the Blu-Ray set...I'm not even sure the Blu-Ray transfer will be done right; as Paul from Spook Central said, the 2005 set is inferior to the older edition(s), so I really don't trust Sony with the whole Ghostbusters thing. But if it's a regular DVD set on a analog TV (which I'll probably/hopefuly own for at least another year...), then the transfer really doesn't make much of a difference to me...just as long as it isn't god-awful...like THE LAST UNICORN DVD release from several years ago...although I haven't seen it, I've heard it's pretty bad...

Ghostbusters Blu-Ray Details & Art...

Since I just found the cover art for the Blu-Ray release on Amazon.de, I thought this would be a good time to recap what we know so far. By the way, the Blu-Ray is not yet available for pre-order on the US Amazon site.

I just thought of something. I wonder if the trading cards will be down-scaled reprints of the original GB1 and GB2 lobby cards.

Probably not because I'm probably giving Sony too much credit to have thought of that :-)

I'm actually hoping that the scrapbook IS the same from the 2005 set, as that will give me a reason to no longer have to keep the 2005 set. It's vastly inferior to the 1999 DVDs, and the only good thing about it is the scrapbook. For the record, I bought two sets so that I could keep one scrapbook in mint condition and have the other one as a "reading copy".

I just hope this new set uses a far superior film print than the 2005 set - and that it includes movie-related extras for GB2! More GB1 extras wouldn't hurt either. Hey Sony, how about a complete workprint copy of both films? I know you have one for GB1 as that's obviously where you pulled the Deleted Scenes and Before SFX angle footage from. Maybe you can see if you have a copy of these notable deleted scenes in your vaults: Fort Detmerring, Louis With Muggers in Central Park, and Ecto-1 Shuns Cops' Ticket.

As for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man figurine, I hope that's different from the 2005 set promo squishee. I don't need another one of those. The trading cards sound interesting. It would be a hoot if it was a complete set reprint of Topps' GB2 set (even though I already have mint and non-mint sets), with a new set commissioned and done by Topps for GB1. The slime I'd take a pass on. That's a rather useless novelty for me.

I'll reserve further judgment until more details are released and I see some box pics.

As for the Blu-Ray... I don't have a player, so that's a pass for me. It's a shame it'll have some extras not on the DVD (the picture-in-picture “Slimer Mode,” exclusive featurettes, and a presumably exclusive photo gallery), but dems da breaks. I'm sure that fans with Blu-Ray players will fill us in on what EXACTLY these are when the discs come out, with screen shots and whatnot. Maybe us non-Blu-Ray owners could even get downsampled copies of these extras on unofficial DVDs :-)

By the way, in case anyone was wondering (and I know that no one was, but I needed a segue), the 2005 DVDs have gotten two significant re-releases since the original release. They were released individually on March 14, 2006, as you all know. What you might not know is that this year, the "gift set" was repackaged in one double-disc plastic case, sans the "movie scrapbook", under the title "Ghostbusters Collection". I saw it on a Wal-Mart shelf two weeks ago selling for $9.96.

Do you think the StayPuft is the "exclusive" that you got if you bought the DVD two-pack at (I think) FYE? Or pre-ordered it or something like that? I don't think I'll be buying this repackaged set again...And for 40 dollars? You're basically paying 25 dollars for a StayPuft, trading cards, and Slime, assuming the scrapbook and special features are what you can get with the current 2 DVD set at Circuit City or Best Buy for 15 bucks. Or the OOP special edition from '99 that you can get at Wal-Mart for $7.50. Is this even going to be a new transfer? IT would be funny if the menus were still the same as the previous DVDs...Sorry to sound so negative, just a little perspective. I'm still excited for the game and the RGB DVD set!!

Without any confirmation of genuine special features, I think I'll pass... the scrapbook sounds a lot like the last release of the DVD (and as it happens, I bought the scapbook that someone was selling separately on eBay so now, I have even less reason to get this), and whilst the Stay Puft figurine may be cool, that, the probable already-released scrap book and the slime aren't enough on their own to make me buy the films again UNLESS they have good special features... which seems unlikely at this juncture.

That's a load of crap that all of the goodies aren't coming with the Blu-ray. I have the '99 releases and the green goo box.. and now I have to buy it a THIRD TIME just to get all that stuff when I'm already buying the Blu-ray.

Sony's not the only company doing this, but it its aggrevating.

On the prices, from what I understand, the Blu-ray set will be 56.95. The 39.95 set will be a regular/standard DVD re-release packed with the goodies. Maybe that clears it up. Take care.
