“The Real Ghostbusters has had a strong and vocal fanbase for years, and the series has been one of the most requested shows for DVD release” says Jeff Peisch, head of Time Life’s video division. “Time Life has a long history of releasing classic properties in a way that viewers appreciate, and we intend this Complete Series release to be extraordinary. From the digitally restored episodes to the extensive bonus materials, this set will have fans calling for the Ghostbusters again and again.”

To produce the most comprehensive selection of extra materials ever seen for a complete animated television series box set, Time Life has engaged the services of Special Features producers Andy Mangels and Reed Kaplan. Mangels is a best-selling novelist, author of Animation on DVD: The Ultimate Guide, and the producer whom TVShowsonDVD.com called “legendary.” Mangels and Kaplan are producing the five documentaries, 21 commentary tracks, and a multitude of other extra content surprises. The duo were assisted by James Eatock of cereal:geek magazine. “I hope that fans will be spooked by how much cool material we’re putting together for this set,” said Mangels. “We’re including everything we can, short of duplicating the keys to the Ghostbusters car, the Ecto-1.” Covers for The Real Ghostbusters set and its interior cases will be by comic artist Emiliano Santalucia and MVCreations.

Sometimes I wonder what we did to deserve all this wonderful GB stuff that’s coming out this fall. This DVD set is the stuff of dreams.

We hung in there for 25 years?

    Good one!

    I’ll second that castewar!

Wow, this fall is going to be amazing.
    And “Alternate Episode”?!

Now that’s just spooky (pardon the pun), Emiliano Santalucia was originally slated to provide a varient cover for the first monthly issue of the 88MPH Comic.

And now, he’s going to be doing cover artwork for the series… I can’t wait to see his representation of the RGBs. :)

I’m certainly intrigued by that ‘alternate episode’ note… especially being billed as ‘double length’. I wonder what it could refer to…

I really can’t get *any* sleep this days. There’s so much going on, I could miss something…

  7. castewar July 24, 2008 5:14 pm

I was wondering if it didn’t mean the prime-time special.

I’m soo jealous of everyone at comi-con having the opprotunity to to be that close to the ghostbusters game..lol..ah well..I’ve waited almost 10 years for a good GB another 2 and a half months isn’t gonna kill me…lol

So… does anyone know if this was the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT that was advertised so long ago? It’s strange that it was made prior to the Ghostbusters panel… does this mean that we have yet to hear the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT?

  10. castewar July 24, 2008 5:44 pm

There is a good chance this is the big announcement - we’ve known about it for awhile, but we (as big fans) are right on the bleeding edge of news. The rest of the world is still tuning into the news, and most won’t know about it until standard news outlets cover today’s press release. As I understand it, the pre-order info, etc. went out a little early, as well as the details that were already leaked. Keeping secrets are hard in the internet age.

There may yet be surprises coming out of the show (the IDW comic was a nice surprise and there’s the panel for the video game tomorrow, etc.), but we should also be prepared that this is it or that the big news is something we’re already familiar with.

I’m more than happy with what’s already on the table. Never in all my ghostbusting dreams have I even imagined the score we’re about to get this fall.

Don’t expect for some wildly different interpretation. I’m pretty sure that he’s going to have to draw them on-model, or pretty darn close.

It’s the 1-hour version of “Deja Boo”, which is included along with the 30-minute version. It’s nice that Time-Life is making special note of this alternate. Hopefully the other alternate episodes (redubs, Tahiti music, Attack Of The B-Movie Monsters brief alt footage, and Short Stuff voices-only production tape) will be included as well.

(Chris, please delete my first post as I left some things out of it. Thanks.)

I expected this would be the big announcement.

As I knew it would slip early on. Just knowing how the internet is and how things “get out there”…..

With that being said, this extrordinary (sp?), PHENOMENAL!

Learning that the complete series was suprise enough. But Time-Life is going BEYOND the extra mile. I’m very appreciative. This is pure BLISS!

  16. biodom July 25, 2008 12:25 am

Please, a french track…Or at least, french subtitles…

  17. castewar July 25, 2008 1:18 am

They have a French subtitles from the previous releases (or at least I seem to recall the Ghostbusters 2 disc was the single most translated version ever), so I’d be surprised if it didn’t have at least the French subtitles.

And we know the discs are being produced for Europe, so there’s a good chance of a version in French too. We’ll know more as the disc listings start to appear on web retail sites all over.

This is the BIG announcement?!?! WhereS the trailer for Ghostbusters CGI ?? :(

  19. Matthew July 25, 2008 5:59 am

    WE WANT SHUKI LEVYS MUSIC!

    Please… spanish subtitles… PLEASEEEE!!!

  21. recon one July 25, 2008 5:45 pm

UNFORTUNATELY, I suppose that dream-set will not include any other audio track… spanish (LATIN) for example.

I am a spanish (LATIN) speaker and I’m a loyal fan from Ghostbusters and Real Ghostbusters from ’80s.
In fact, in Southamerica, Real Ghostbusters seasons were aired -continuosly- from 1987 until 1996.

But I think is 99% sure that this incredible-set doesn’t include spanish (LATIN) audio track.

    For this reason… I can’t dream with this fabulous-DVD-set.

    (sigh…)

    c.v.

Sounds to me like you forgot this topic is about the RGB DVD set and not the movie DVDs. Don’t sweat it, we all get a brain freeze sometimes :-)

As for foreign language tracks, there’s always a possibility, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were you. I think you’d be better off hoping for foreign language subtitles instead, though that’s assuming that Time-Life is willing to pay for people to do the translations since I doubt that any already exist (unless they happen to find some old foreign language closed-caption tracks they can convert to subtitle format).
