Steve Gustafson: Fiction. Many of you will scream, “Sacrilege!,” but I love Ghostbusters and would welcome a new movie. It’s not like the first two are untouchable holy canon. It’s dudes fighting ghosts! The potential is endless. WAIT! Let me make a note. I’m NOT down if they bring in Steve Carrell, Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, and Jonah Hill. I’m a fan of them but it wouldn’t be a Ghostbuster movie anymore. It would be the Knocked Up Virgin Pineapple . And yes, I know that sounds hypocritical after my Will Smith argument but I’m sticking to it!
Jordan Bruns: Fact. Just because Indiana Jones had a successful resurrection after a 19-year layoff doesn’t mean the Ghostbusters will fare the same. If this was meant to be an ongoing series, they should have done it while the cast was still young enough to be believable in their roles. Who really wants to see a bunch of 60-year-old men hunting ghosts? That explains why they’re going with the whole “passing of the torch” storyline. But seriously… the original Ghostbusters mentoring a younger group? Are you kidding me? I’m not saying that’s not an amusing concept, but I’m not paying ten bucks to sit through two hours of it. I know a lot of people who like Ghostbusters but I’ve never heard anyone say “I wish they’d make a third one.” The simple fact is I just don’t think there’s enough public demand for Ghostbusters III to make it successful.
Final Score: 3 for 6

I have such conflicting views when it comes to another Ghostbusters movie. On one hand I’ve always wanted one more movie. Just one more. I was disappointed with Ghostbusters II and I’ve always thaught that they should make another one to correct the mistakes that were made with Ghostbusters II and finish the series on a high note while making it into a trilogy. On the other hand I just don’t think they can make another Ghostbusters movie which even comes close to the quality of the original. I think that the possibility of the movie disappointing the fans is so much greater than it pleasing us that I tend to think that maybe they should just leave it alone. I really don’t think that there’s much story left for making a good third movie.
I WISH THEY’D MAKE A THIRD ONE !!!!!!!!!!
“It’s not like the first two are untouchable holy canon.”
*It is if you’re a Ghosthead!!…
*Cheers.
The original is untouchable.
I’ve always felt seperating the movies from the cartoon (The Real Ghostbusters mind you) was a mistake, and didnt feel right. I Like Ghostbusters 2, but clearly, its doesnt compare to the original. For a third, there has to be a REALLY good story to make it work… Otherwise it will be another repeat of past mistakes. I pray someone doesnt come out and say “Lets make it darker like BATMAN!!lol11″
I’d pay $10.00 to see a 3rd; whether it be live action or cgi…however live action would be better.
well being a ghostbuster isnt exactly an action packed gig?..people forget that these were comedic actors that were out of shape in the first place, whats funny is that people still believed harrison ford to be a 60 some odd year old action packed archeoligist? So why cant you be a 60 year old scientist? Time to think outside the box people. Little hair dye and some make up and bam you got GHOSTBUSTERS 3!!! i’d pay to see it.
I must say that i really love to see them in action one more time, they had so great chemestry together, ; I always liked to think of the movie as a Action/Scary/Funny one, yes the funny at the end because even when i knew the where Comedians they where doing a fine job doing all those impressions thats why i like GB1 better than the second one wich i thinks was more caricaturistic and more focuse on the children (toy selling and all that) than in the general public. So basically i would love to see a much darker/scary movie with a little of humor, original cast and no “passing the torch” stuff.
Cheers.
Well I’ll throw my (drunken) two cents onto the pile… and just say that these are all valid points. Personally, I think a third movie is entirely doable, if done from the right angle and properly cared for… I say cared for because I think we can agree that NO ONE wants a “new” hollywood treatment of the film… do a good version. Have it exist in its own campy realm a la the way Grindhouse was developed within its own scracthed, yellowed film world…understand I dont want to see a Ghostbusters Grindhouse either (though potentially cool) but more a movie that impresses its creators for the fun of it NOT appealing to an audience of dollar signs.

I WISH THEY’D MAKE A 3RD FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are going to be making a third film and it will be here in 2010 and here’s the proof:www.Imdb.com/name/nm0000101/news#ni0561812 and the Info will make you very Happy because GB3 isn’t a rumor anymore it’s happening and you can read more about it!
imdb is a fan site. with information posted by fans, i have seen a ghostbusters 3 link on there 6319913 million times and it always gets taken off. So whoever threw that in you can take it off.
GB3 has had a special place in my heart reserved since seeing GB1. Lets face it, if there was a neverending streak of hilarious Ghost-head content, we’d all splurge. Point being I would like to see it happen IN TASTE. I for one thought the new Indy movie was HORRIBLE for the plot, but great for the passing of the torch. I will say this though: the torch passing was FAR too obvious. Lucas/Spielberg made it too kid-friendly.
I fear that might be the problem with Ghostbusters in reverse -they may take it the opposite direction.
I have to agree with Gustafson, I’m for a third but not with those actors.
Also, I feel that a perfect balance of comedy and serious spookiness is the formula for Ghostbusters. Too much of either would ruin the feel and it would no longer be true to the original movies. I feel that the style of comedy that these mentioned actors is not the right type of comedy for Ghostbusters as well, but maybe they can surprise us by toning down or changing their comedy style. I’m not one for drug or sexual humor. Ghostbusters had a little, but it was nothing compared to the overwhelming amount in media today.
To each his own, right? I for one would like a third installment, but I agree with those who say that it would be best at this point if one is never created. The times have changed and Ghostbusters must either conform or stay true to the source material. I’m for staying true.
NO No no. GHOSTBUSTERS 3 should no day no time be made. Put it this way, it’s such a predictable movie, we already know it would have a pass-the-torch storyline. Gag me with mouldy crackers. Or a GHOSTBUSTERS Intl theme where, didn’t you know, EVERY city has had a GHOSTBUSTERS headquarters all along? You didn’t know that? IT’S ALL CRAP. Kill it before it makes the screen. All we would get would be 2nd rate or even 3rd rate David-Spade type morons. You might as have Brittany Spears sing a song or two.
They must do a third one! If not I’m going to eat my own shit.
