The pre-order deal is over, but it’s never too late to pre-order the DVD (here if you’re in Canada.)
I just received some information about the upcoming Real Ghostbusters DVD set, by Time-Life. Suffice to say, it’s not what you’d call “simple.”
For starters, Time-Life has announced that they will be using Steelbook DVD cases – you may have seen them in stores for special edition DVDs. They look like they sound – they are cases that open like a book, and the front and back “covers” are printed metal.
The Real Ghostbusters DVDs will be housed in 5 separate Steelbook cases, which will then be put in the Firehouse box.
Stay tuned for a look at the final box design!
“When we were designing what The Real Ghostbusters: The Complete Series would contain for commentaries,” says Andy Mangels, the producer of all special content on the DVDs, “my production partner, Reed Kaplan, had an excellent idea. As you’ll see from the following pictures, the commentaries are an immersive visual experience. Participants were filmed with two cameras and headset microphones, enabling them to converse freely with each other while viewing the episode. Reed designed the screen so that there are four constantly moving elements: two ‘panels’ with the commentary participants are at the top, while the lower right corner has the episode playing in realtime. The background of the widescreen image is also the episode playing, in a highly blurred fashion, essentially adding moving wallpaper. Finally, at the lower middle of the screen is a slideshow from each episode, which changes at least once per minute. We think that the Visual Commentary package looks stupendous, and it will be interesting for fans to be voyeurs to the process of creating the commentaries as they watch the people who created the series, who are in turn, watching their creation and sharing fascinating behind-the-scenes stories!”
And now, the list and particulars of the commentary tracks for all 25 discs PLUS a handful of screengrabs from the commentary tracks and menus (all lot of sites are getting their own selection of screengrabs, so be sure to make the rounds to see more) – it’s HUGE, so make the jump to see all the goodies!

Anyone have a good sggestion on claning drool out of a keyboard?
I honestly dont think I could be happier with what they’re doing for this release,
Its going to be fantastic!
I agree full hartedly this is like the dvd that has everything there is about the real ghostbusters. including stuff that fans are don’t know about the series.although if they weere to come out with a new animated series about ghostbusters. I have a pretty good idea for the voice cast. for one how about phil lamarr for winston, kyle hebert for ray, crispin freeman for egon,as for peter steven jay blum that is if he could do a real good bill murray impersination. If not there’s always dave coulier as for janine i would go with kari wahlgren to me I think see was ment to do her voice. as for slimer I guess you would go with billy west,But that’s just my opinion for voice actors for a new ghostbusters cartoon series.Bottom line this DVD set has it all.Although I wonder if it also has the dubbed over episodes of season 1.If not than that’s no problem.Aside from that if your a fan of ghostbusters this DVD is for you.
WAAAHYEEEEYAAAAAYAAAAA!
Very nice! Of course it’s hard to see from those screenshots, but the picture quality of the episodes themselves also seem to look very good. This DVD set is gonna be awesome!
Looks like Andy’s put together another great package.
I can’t wait for this. I’m looking forward to this just as much as the game.
I have just posted my exclusive screen shots, so feel free to check them out.

Although I wonder if it also has the dubbed over episodes of season 1.
That’s one of the few things NOT included in the set.
This is going to be sweet!…Does anyone know If there is going to be a UK release though??? Its times like this when being British sucks! Still have 30 or more of the cartoons on origionl VHS.
ok ,then thanks for that information. all in all what do you think of my voice cast for a potential ghostbusters cartoon?
I prepre-ordered mine!
I waited Twenty something years for this collection!

No. They were only able to get North American release rights from Sony.
