Kotaku has gotten the official press release on the Ghostbusters video game, which only confirms everything we already know. But official makes it… official. Right?
They also say they have new screens, which means two images, one of which looks like one we’ve seen before, though I can’t be certain – I’m confident you eagle-eyes out there will let us know.
But what was really interesting came at the end;
To recognize this special milestone, Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc has licensed the property for several new products to commemorate the anniversary, including: video games, toys, t-shirts, comic books, prop replicas, and a theme park attraction.
Reeeeeeeeally? I’m listening…
Thanks to Brendan for the heads-up.

Exciting news! I wonder if we’ll see a renovation of the Ghostbusters HQ at Universal Studios? Looking forward to hearing more about this.
Please be Universal! Please be Universal! Please be Universal! Please be Universal!
That would be my guess as well… i mean its still all pretty much there right?
TOYS!! Well, Hello Kenner!
Want official?

The PDF is in french, it says the game will be out in “Spring 2009″
El,
Actually, that was damned silly of me to forget. The building that was once Ghostbusters Spooktacular has been Twister since 96 or 97. Plus, Universal is building a roller-coaster that has part of the track going through the firehouse’s window. So…I guess it’s not likely to be Universal.
Hopefully its a first-rate theme park attraction, and not a cheesy temporary attraction or a cheap quick fix like the wild mouse Batman: Dark Knight rides at several Six Flags parks.
Raff – Here’s the ?English version of the press release straight from the Infogrames website.
Jonathan – Kenner’s been out of business for years. I believe that all of their assets are now owned by Hasbro. Their license was probably specific to The Real Ghostbusters, and undoubtedly expired over a decade ago. Remember, Trandmasters had the Extreme Ghostbusters license a decade ago, and Neca has the Ghostbusters movie license four years ago. I wonder if Neca still has the license. Of course, the “toys” in question could be the kubricks, which I don’t think are being released by Neca.
Unless they shut down Twister. I suppose it could be some form of the travaling Ghostbusters thing, where they fought Beetlejuice (if even that is still around) I don’t really know what sort of advancements in theam park rides that have been developed since the Spooktacular first was around, but i will bet they could make somthing really neat if they tried!
“Brian Doyle-Murray (portraying Mayor Jock Mulligan)”
Wait… he’s not playing the psychiatrist? And what happened to Lenny–is his second term up already?
I just hope that Atari/Infogrames’ PR department decides to cooperate with us fan sites as much as, if not more than, Sierra’s did.
wow, I had no idea about those old Universal GB attractions. I just watched the youtube videos…wow? Cheesy, but awesome.
El,
I don’t know how it could be the traveling show either because Universal sold their Ecto-1 ages ago (and the person who bought it from them recently sold it on eBay). This is a truly fascinating tidbit, assuming anything comes from it. Theme park rides have progressed quite a bit since Spooktacular so they could do something good if they were willing to spend the money. I’m thinking now that this was a generic quote and maybe they were just spitballing. It’d be hard for me to believe Universal would suddenly bring back GB after letting the license expire.
Actually because of the Credit Crunch, Paul (not Rudoff) still has Universal’s Ecto.
As for Lenny, Hardemeyer did say he was running for Govenor in the autumn of 1990, looks like he was successful, or at least served his full term… they still had term limits for New York back then. :eyeroll:
LITTLE BIT OFF TOPIC BUT I GOT AN E-MAIL TODAY FROM AMAZON SAYING THAT THE GHOSTBUSTERS VIDEO GAME WALK THROUGH GUIDE I ORDERED HAS BEEN SHIPPED! DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE IM GONNA HAVE A GUIDE FOR A GAME THAT DOESNT HAVE A RELEASE DATE YET? AND YES ITS A GUIDE FOR THE NEW GAME!
Yeah, the theme parkrights for the ride have been sold to cedar park, so it could be aby number of parks, including Knotts Berry Farm. AHHHH, now we see why they had the stay puft with the Ecto-1.
there is a very good reason why there is a new mayor in the game. (shifty eyes)
I’m pretty sure that the theme park attraction will be a virtual ride.
Finally the Official official word..lol
Whoa, whoa, whoa… stop the bus… toys? Hmm… maybe NECA’s finally going to stop sitting on the license and start producing some new products?
Alex Gray? Former WB Alex? That you?
as for the theme park attraction…during halloween @ six flags they did a bootleg ghostbusters show. they said it was in litigation…so instead of ghostbusters it was ghostbashers. i havent had time to report this news. its a tiger show with the ghostbusters and the stay puft marshmellow man comes out and the tigers tear him up lol. they play the ghostbusters theme and the ghostbusters theme from gb2. it was ok just bootleg. also it was only for the fright fest…
ogswiss,
Dorney Park, in Allentown, PA and now part of the Cedar Fair chain, had a Halloween show with the peanuts characters singing the Ray Parker, Jr. theme. It was completely unwatchable, scarring even–an affront to the Ghostbusters legacy. Ugh.
Yeah, I know Kenner is out of business, but it’d be super great if some toy company began a full blown line of Ghostbusters toys like Kenner was doing way back…it sucks having to pay $10 MINIMUM, or $20 for one with packaging that isn’t worn through the ages…that’s prolly not gonna happen at least until GB3 gets made, supposing it gets off the ground…
I talked to the head writer for Universal Shows last week and I quote “”I can and cannot confirm Ghostbusters will be coming back”
Oh wow, I did not hear about that list of things…wow
I couldn’t possibly care any less about a theme park attraction, the word TOYS is what caught my eye. We are LOOOONG overdue for good GB action figures, and if they’re not made during this anniversary blitz, the internet will burn in the hellfire of my undying rage…..or I’ll just get really annoyed and post about it here. I really hope to see some well-articulated movie accurate figures.
If they are saying “Theme” park and not “Amusement” Park then it’s likely one of the big 2: Disney or Universal, with Universal the most likely due to past negotiations.
Though I wouldn’t disagree with Disney grabbing the rights. I’d go every chance I’d get and audtion to be any walk around Ghostbuster
Good stuff, looking forward to sticking around.
