TVShowsOnDVD.com has confirmed that January 27th will be the official release date of the Real Ghostbusters DVDs into stores, starting with Volume 1.
The set will sell for at a SRP of $39.98, but Amazon is currently taking pre-orders at $27.99 (plus the item is eligible for free-shipping.) Amazon and others are displaying the SteelBook case for the set, but this is incorrect apparently.
For the time being, big fans that can’t wait a whole year to pick the sets up individually can still buy it online at Time-Life (Canadians can order here) – at $179.99 plus shipping, it’s easily a better value than the retail sets combined.

It seems much more worth it to buy the boxset. The packaging is much cooler and I think the bonus disc with the promo pilot is only included in it.
are the box sets a limited time only kind of a thing? because i cant afford it until after xmas, and i really hope not!
I doubt that they will stop selling them anytime soon – the special editions of other sets they sell, like Get Smart, are still available, while they are producing the separate sets.
Actually, TVSoDVD says that the Steelbook packaging *will* be present in the retail release, so the Amazon/online store pictures are indeed accurate.
Yeah you’d be foolish not to just go for the box.. DVD release of the year for sure.
Yeah, the outer box is awesome for displaying it. I would guess that the retail release won’t have all the special extra features either.
Yeah, the individual releases are for the casual fan, or the mom/dad shopping at Wal-Mart wanting to buy something for their little ones or themselves (not everyone has internet and knows that the box set even exists!).
For use die-hards, the box set is the way to go
Someone know how to buy the complete set? I’m from Belgium and shipping is not available for Europe
I’ve seen it on ebay, and apparently some sellers do ship it internationally. Customs duties might be an issue though. Or find a friend in the US who will order and reship.
